Christian Nationalism is a giant threat to our country. A danger to women, to minorities, to the marginalized and to democracy itself. While these white, Christian nationalists believe they’re saving the country from heathenism, what they’re really offering is a theocracy of top down control with themselves at the top. We must see this threat for what it is, and that starts with understanding. Tim Whitaker is the founder of the New Evangelicals, an inclusive, Jesus-centered community that holds space for those marginalized by the evangelical church and advocates for systemic change. Raised deep in the evangelical world – Tim had a crisis of faith watching his church leaders embrace a man who was so antithetical to what he had been taught to believe. He now holds the toxic churches and their leaders accountable, while still offering a home of faith to his fellow Christians. Please join us for this incredibly engaging conversation. No, I don't care. This book was written a LONG time ago by idiot sheep-fuckers who didn't know where the sun went at night. The fact that you use it as your moral compass should qualify as a mental disorder, honestly. Also, what does the bible say about shellfish? What does it say about slaves? Why do you get to pick and choose what parts of the bible are important and make FUCKIN' LAWS that affect rational humans? The absolute narcissism on you people. 🙄
Believing in Dawkins: The New Spiritual Atheism by Eric Steinhart, 2020
In this book, atheist philosopher Eric Steinhart explores the spiritual dimensions of Richard Dawkins’ books, which are shown to encompass:
· the meaning and purpose of life
· an appreciation of Platonic beauty and truth
· a deep belief in the rationality of the universe
· an aversion to both scientism and nihilism
@patrickhadfield I think that, (thanks to Terry Pratchett) the expressions you are looking for are "Oh! Random fluctuations in the space/time continuum!" and "Aargh! Primitive and outmoded concept on a crutch.".
I often feel like the odd one out, believing in something I call God, among secular technologists. I see most #atheism as a rejection of modern dualistic Christian culture. Fine: I've literally no ties to Christianity. Neither am I New Age, though I do think they are a bit closer to the Truth in referring to God as The Universe. Doesn't matter exactly what you call It. Mystics of all origins in all geographies will tell you the limits of names.
What I believe in is the limit of knowledge. I believe in Mystery. I believe in cognitive psychology: that our brains can only take us so far. If I can understand the limits of the machinery of understanding, I can get a glimpse of the scale of all that I can never begin to understand. What is left is: to simply continue to be a part of it all, and with respect to our oneness, be as healthy as we can. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth
Rep. Jamie Raskin, co-chair of the Congressional Freethought Caucus, has once again proposed a National Day of Reason resolution as a counter to the National Day of Prayer. The resolution celebrates Saturday, May 4, 2024, as a National Day of Reason and urges Americans to focus on the importance of reason, critical thought, the scientific method and free inquiry to resolve problems rather than turning to religion.
(The House will not approve this, but let's do it anyway) #FFRF#atheism
