Of the top 20 "404"s of my personal website, 18 are for WordPress pages. My blog is entirely static, i.e., these failed requests are attempts at hacking. The other two are for ".git" and for ".env".
Be careful out there. If you use WordPress at all, the likelihood you've let something open is high; lots of surface of attack. Read the manual.
Google's still delisted my 100% hand wrtitten site for "pure spam".
I'm looking at my "toxic links" in SEMRUSH and I was told not to bother to disavow these (unless I actually paid for links, which I have not) but there are a lot more than there were.
Almost all of them are either scrapes of my content and/or hotlinking my images though (which cloudflare blocks?).
I hate SEO, so disavow yes/no? Shouldn't matter, but I shouldn't be marked as spam. IDK.
3rd party SEO tools are useless for this kind of analysis. And their ideas of "toxic links" are nonsense.
You should look at what Google Search Console is telling you.
Also, Google's March 2024 update can take up to a month to roll out. It's going to do all sorts of crazy things in that time. Many of them will be reversed without people having to do anything.
Don't disavow links. That will just end up hurting you even more.

Sigh any #SEO or #webdev#webmaster have experience with Google randomly marking a website as "Pure spam"?
Completely, verifiably 100% incorrect, my site's almost 10 years old and all articles hand written by me. 0 search traffic incoming how, extremely pissed off.
No warnings from #google no nothing, just "this is literally the worst possible spam so we shut it down". Everything except fucking wordpress itself and my theme is hand written.
goog morning it is i, the evil male spectre of fediverse
i am on fedi since 2022 so i am not New to this space; decided to try out wafrn after the tumblr hammer car explosion and as a way to expand the spectre empire
if you never heard of me on the mastodon or anywhere else; i make digital art, i collect plushies (gaming merch), i have at least 2 consoles (wii and 3ds). i am a rookie webmaster rewriting his website right now.
feel free to follow me if we have similar interests and you arent a minor.
techbros (including AI bros), kids, ableists, classists, TMA/TME truthers and the like will be sacrificed at the nearest altar.
Did you find a way to address the issues presented while keeping #IconFonts?
Basically:
When our friends with #Dyslexia overrides your fonts, font icons turn into black boxes since the font they're using doesn't have support for those Unicode code blocks.
When screenreaders, or voice assistance, reads a site with icon fonts, they read the icon fonts really weird.
For No.2, a site with properly marked aria labels, or marked as hidden for assistive tech, is the solution I can think of.
However, for No.1, I can't think of a way since once the browser forces the user font, all fonts on the site will rely on the user's custom font.
The only other way I can think of is to provide an option to switch the site's font right from the website, so they don't have to override the site's font.
i'm mahi, known as the creator of neorat emojis, an artist, a webmaster, a Certified Worst Sysadmin of 2023, a kitten, furry alterhuman and the hater of stock mastodon
besides being the guy who made neorats, i also do artwork (yes i am open for commissions!) and make static websites. i constantly rebuild my website to find that one perfect layout i will eternally love.
i'm intolerant to ableism, queerphobia, racism and especially classism. spout any of these for a free block and report bundle.
i have RSD (thanks to being AuDHD) and psychosis so please be gentle and don't yell at me for making a mistake even if it's obvious to you and everyone else. last thing we want is a spiral down from being yelled at.
posting some of my work below, hoping you will like it :blobcat3c:
also I love replies and making new friends! let's interact~
do instances have an RSS feed that can be plugged in to some sort of javascript widget (or just something I can put on a static site) that displays newest (public) posts from an instance? (or from one user)
reason i ask: if it happens I will be the head owner and commander of an instance, I wanted to make an introductory page on my website for the instance, and such an RSS feed would display what’s up on the server at the moment
My favorite Pokemon, as you might be able to tell, is #Vulpix! I also like Meowstic, Riolu, and Meowscarada.
Just a heads up: I’m fairly boost/repeat heavy! I like to boost lots of art in particular, among other things. If you don’t like that, you’re welcome to hide boosts from my account.
I wish there was an htaccess rule to force a prompt for a question upon first access to my website, like "what color is the white horse of Santiago" that required a written reply and a press on an "OK" button. If someone wants to read my entirely static, ad-free blog, surely they can spare 5 seconds to type it in.
Adding more and more IPs and bot names under Deny rules seems futile. At this point I'd be better off blocking the whole website with basic auth and posting the password in social media.
I'm murid, I like looking at art on the internet and reading about nerdy topics. I gravitate towards #SFF, but I also like reading blog posts and other mundane stuff.
I tend to boost a lot of #art and read a lot of #manga.
I'm a fan of #gunpla, but I'm on a bit of a hiatus, too many hobbies.
I draw a lot with #ink, but rarely post it here. I like being a #webmaster of a janky poorly coded website. Recently I've gotten into #watercolor and #fountainpen.
Weird. Google Search console greeted me as if I never used it before (I've had my site on it for 7 years!) and is "processing my data". It looks like it re-verified my site but I don't know if it just deleted all my historical data. No idea what happened there
I received a sort of real response from Bing Webmaster support after sending my latest inquiry (we have to be close to 10 now). Automated, yes, but a support number and inviting me to respond to the thread if I have updates. This is good because I'm coming close to blocking Bingbot in robots.txt. Just know I'm doing all of this out of the goodness of my heart for the DuckDuckGo/Ecosia/Qwant crowd out there.
#compsci degree from #rutgers, worked in the field for 13 years, then switched to freelancing in #webdesign. I also volunteer for several orgs as a #webmaster.
