#Question. You know when you stream a radio station through something like Tunein, can you get the actual URL of the stream so you can feed it into VLC from the Tunein or whatever feed?
I was trying to use alphapapa's 'Listen' package, which was already installed, for audio transcription, but I struggled to find an intuitive way to skip forward or backward w/o leaving the working buffer. Also challenging was the fact that my keyboard only has a play/pause key.
But since 'listen' seemed to default to #VLC, I decided to use playerctl to control it, regardless of how it was launched. It's a command-line tool that works with MEPRIS players, and I could bind custom shortcuts in GNOME Shell to the play/pause key + a modifier.
One of my favorite Wardruna albums is no longer available on Spotify for some reason and this is exactly the thing I've been talking about. I can still see the songs in my Playlist, but they're grayed out and unselectable. So I've paid for a thing that has now been taken away from me with no notice and no compensation.
This is why I buy CDs and burn them and THEN never, ever let iTunes see the original library files. There's a #WeirdAlYankovic song "Couch Potato" on Poodle Hat that iTunes deleted from my library because of a copyright dispute between Al and Eminem. I OWN THE CD, i have a PHYSICAL COPY of the song but iTunes deleted the file from my computer. I never let iTunes see my library again and use #VLC instead.
Also if you want Couch Potato in your rotation just name it something different, it will play anyway and if iTunes catches a whiff of your files it won't know to delete a missnamed file.

I really do love the rich features and UX of #MXPlayer on Android, a video player app.
However, with the latest updates, it gets more and more tedious to use it without network permission (I don't use and want). Reason: when starting the app, it either does nothing until a timeout of ~1min is reached or it never passes the startup screen. So far, I still can "open" it when opening any video file from my file browser.
Is there a decent alternative video player for Android I should consider?
From my initial test, I can't confirm background playback (if activated it still stops a second after screen lock).
Another requirement: remember playback position in videos when resuming.
Somehow, I got issues with getting back to the video (even without remembering playback position). I only get the sound, the image preview and the playlist but not the video. Then, the sound continues even in lock screen mode but I never get back to the video after unlock. 🤔
