I know everyone focuses on his promise that he would be back, but I think my favorite moment in the Gospels is when Jesus offered his hand to Simon Peter and declared, “Come with me if you want to live!”
Today, July 25, Skynet becomes self-aware and launches nuclear missiles to eliminate its enemy, humanity, an event known as Judgment Day (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, 2003)
Y'all know when I've switched to using ChatGPT for articles cos you'll see no typos, fewer sentences that randomly end in the middle, and a dramatic reduction in passé vernacular like "ergo", "hitherto", "proffered", etc. 🤭
Random thoughts: I used to have discussions with my mom about climate change, and she'd say: "I'm glad this is only a problem for my great grandchildren" and I'd say: "No, lots of the impacts are starting to happen now, and are going to get worse, fast, in our lifetime" and she'd say: "why are you such a radical". Yet, here we are. 🤷
@terreal I always think about this scene from the #Terminator: "Are you ever afraid?" "No!" "Not even of dying?" "No." "You don't feel any emotion about it one way or another?" "No, I have to stay functional until the mission is complete." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zm-xpDeGvXU
One year ago I created this miniature Terminator photo. All shot practically except the glowing eyes which I digitally illustrated in, I used a biscuit tin lid as a door job done!

Another article -- this one from 2009. I remember this one. I've been into sci-fi and stuff for a lot of years (the Terminator stuff in this article, Philip K Dick stuff, etc), but I've never wanted to obsess with it or have it make me paranoid or doomy. I even had to back off on a lot of it, other than Star Trek, etc, because it IS so dark, and no sci-fi will ever perfectly predict anything. But this article from 14 years ago is interesting. This kind of talk has been going around for a lot of years and again, NOBODY knows how all of this is gonna end up. And that's what's so weird about it. Anyway. The article from 14 years ago: https://archive.ph/pgDyv
People are laughing about people warning about #AI because it is not a bit dangerous today. For sure, #terminator does not ring the bell tonight at your door. If it does. But it will tomorrow. Many times dangerous development is underestimated in the beginning. #chatGPT and others are the germ cell of mischief.
However, regarding the conclusion, you should have stuck with your gut feeling, IMHO:
"How #ChatGPT is one step closer to becoming an Uber-AI."
I must admit, when I first heard the news that ChatGPT, #OpenAI’s #chatbot, was finally getting connected to the web, my imagination ran wild. Images of #dystopian future scenarios flooded my mind, reminiscent of the fearsome #Skynet from the #Terminator movies..."
Almost every week now, + despite statements to the contrary, by many #AI#scientists and #programmers, the utopias of #IsaacAsimov and #PhilipKDick (+ others 1)) are making a leap forward.
Due to all the white noise + the hype regarding #AI most of the general public.
"It’s increasingly looking like this may be one of the most hilariously inappropriate applications of AI that we’ve seen yet." I am riveted by the extensive documentation of how ChatGPT-powered Bing is now completely unhinged. @simon has chronicled it beautifully here: https://simonwillison.net/2023/Feb/15/bing/
"...experience reality through a prism produced by #nonhuman intelligence?...
"#Terminator...depicted #robots running in the streets and shooting people. #TheMatrix assumed that to gain total control of human society, A.I. would have to first gain physical control of our brains and hook them directly to a computer network.
However, simply by gaining mastery of language, A.I. would have all it needs to contain us in a Matrix-like world of illusions, without shooting..."
..., self-preservation certainly is a defendable concept in the #evolutionary process, so I'd like to propose an alternative
6th #LawOfRobotics (s/:for which I might be hunted down by the presumed #superintelligence some day, #Terminator style./s):
"An artificial intelligence, even if it is biological, must always have an #autodestruct mechanism which it cannot deactivate."
In other words, humanity must always be able to "pull the plug"....
