"It’s increasingly looking like this may be one of the most hilariously inappropriate applications of AI that we’ve seen yet." I am riveted by the extensive documentation of how ChatGPT-powered Bing is now completely unhinged. @simon has chronicled it beautifully here: https://simonwillison.net/2023/Feb/15/bing/
If we look at the international situation today: #ClimateCrisis, wars, one small parties of humanity living relatively well in a #PostColonial world order, it would take any #GAI I've read about in #SciFi but a split second to determine what's the root of the problem: #humanity.
And then, no...
Cut together some of the best model shots from Star Cops. I'm not saying it's a perfect show or anything but these special effects are remarkably ahead of their time (they pre-date TNG)
Return to Alflynd: Tunnel Infection
Whatever it was, it didn't seem to be able to fly, and it took the easiest path when possible. It advanced down tunnels and corridors with terrifying speed. Organic matter it absorbed almost instantly.
Here it is. The latest track I’ve released, and the first video clip I’ve ever done. It is, of course, Space Pop (feat. Kaaren Elizabeth Smith).
Kaaren is a long time friend who I used to co-host a weekly karaoke night with, at a small town bar called The Reef back in the 90’s!!
One of the goals of the Dgar Project is to write new songs, and record them with friends that I have some kind of music related history with. When I got the opportunity to record with Kaaren, I took it.
Kaaren, on the day, was amazing. I sent her a demo of the track to practice and listen to a week earlier. She did some really quirky takes. It’s all her voice too. There’s no auto-tune. There’s no pitch correction. It’s all her. So much fun.
The “doo doo doos” she does was originally a melody I played on a distorted electric guitar. On one of the takes she does these “doo doo doos” over the riff. It just sounds so cool, I replaced my guitar track with her vocals.
I also hope you enjoy my #Blender project that makes the video in all its 8 frames-per-second glory!
Check out the official music video of “Voltes V: Legacy”, the most-awaited live-action adaptation of the classic hit anime series “Voltes V” (超電磁マシーン ボルテスV)!
It will premiere this coming May 8, 2023 at 20:00 ACT (UTC+8), Monday to Friday. Total number of episodes is 80, and the dialogues will be in mix Philippine English and Filipino; with the Boazanians speaking in, well, Boazanian.
I'm not sure if any fansub group/individual will pick it up, but it will be very surprising if no one did. I'm not saying they should do it… but as much as the industry doesn't want to admit it, getting chosen by a fansub is good marketing and a good sign your production was good enough for them to voluntarily make good fansubs. Good, good? ;P
We are seriously lacking new live-action TV series and movies related to isekai (parallel world).
I've watched every English title in every listicle I can find through search. :blobbonecry: I'm currently going through the remaining Korean titles I still have in my watchlist.
Parallel world, or isekai, doesn't have to be science fiction, it can be fantasy. I guess it's easier to write time travel stories? While I love time travel―especially if its time travel is complex—parallel world stories are more interesting.
More! :ablobbonebongo:
PS When it comes to books, we have plenty. But there are times when I just want watch.
BTW, I recently had a trip down #memoryLane and realized that I might technically count as a #publishedAuthor. The story goes like this: a long long time ago in an Internet far far away, there was a social network that started in the best way: as a #POSSE aggregator. The name of the network was #FriendFeed, and apparently it reached its highest reach among users in Italy and Turkey.
(Why? No idea.)
One of the things they did was publish two #scifi#shortStory collection: «L'ennesimo libro della fantascienza» (The nth book of science fiction) and «L'(n+1)esimo libro della fantascienza» (The (n+1)th book of science fiction), dedicated to the memory of Carlo Fruttero and Franco Lucentini, who were (among other things) editors of one of the most important SciFi magazines in Italy, Urania.
Tonight I introduced my roomie to "The Core," a movie that tends to get lambasted for its awful science (which, I mean, fair,) but is - in my opinion - a legitimately half-decent disaster flick, with some really good character writing and a FAR better cast than it had any right to have.
Aaron Eckhart? Stanley Tucci? Come on!
And it's free to watch on YouTube, which is awesome.
What are some "bad" movies you #fediverse folks love despite their reps, and why?
The very first memory that I can recall is watching Star Wars: A New Hope. That opening scene with the large ship being chased by a larger ship implanted a love for science fiction that has remained with me for the rest of my life.
As much as I love the original Star Wars Trilogy:
A New Hope
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
All of those films were supplanted by Rogue One, which I was hooked on based upon the second trailer.
What I enjoyed most about Rogue One was the fact it was an actual war movie instead of a political family movie (which is what most Star Wars films are).
There were also no official Jedi in the movie, & you really witnessed a ferocious side of Darth Vader that was (in hindsight) strangely absent in the original trilogy.
Also, you got a sense that the stakes were ultimately higher in this film, & the theme was much simpler: sacrificing for a better future.

For the lady who has everything, the Dream Loader is a dream come true, highly useful for heavy lifting or fighting off Xenomorph Queens. Seriously though, this is the crossover we never knew we needed. #Alien#Aliens#JamesCameron#AvP#SciFi#80s#AliensExpanded
Within moments, the anomaly had 'stung' the side of the station from what looked like its bottom, and began pumping nano-particles into the station - Spreading like a bacteria through a new host, following corridors as if they were arteries.
