For the hackers out there - what are you using to create virtual ranges?

Prefer FOSS but open to a subscription model.

Looking for something that can replicate an enterprise environment with a few enclaves.

@carlton I'm wondering what the best way with django-filter would be to have an exclusive upper bound range filtering. Like, a user selects Jan 2, 2024 to Jan 10, 2024 for items to show. I want to filter out stuff that's before Jan 11, 2024.

The Django docs explicitly state the problem with dates here: https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/4.2/ref/models/querysets/#range

Couldn't find an existing multi-handle range slider built as a HTML Web Component, so I converted an existing regular multi-handle range slider to a Web Component and learned a lot about the process of building custom Web Components. Fun!

@croc Nice work! Building IS fun, isn't it?

Have you looked into how leveraging an <input type="range"> under the covers for each handle supports easier interactions for keyboard and screen reader users?

My team approaches this situation with the following implementation: https://opensource.adobe.com/spectrum-web-components/components/slider-handle/#range-slider The underlying code is a bit of a mess right now, however. 😞

Millennials hold 4.4% of all wealth, and there are now millennials in their 40s.

For comparison, Gen X had 9% of the wealth, and Boomers had 21%. The largest generation in history did everything they were told, became the most educated generation, and now they’re the poorest.

On top of that, Zuckerberg single-handedly has a large chunk of the millennial wealth.

This week I’m messing about with scroll-linked animations, and I’m having trouble figuring out a way to do a specific pattern. Easier to show it than to describe it, but I’ll try: The animation starts in its timeline according to how much of the element has been revealed, and proceeds from there to 100% as the end of the element approaches the view. In effect, “the furthest point in the element you can see is this much from the beginning of the element.” Any clever clogs care to cogitate?

I will die on this hill:
We will not fix our democracy until we start doing criminal prosecutions of the wealthy again. Not just weakly using DPAs and fines
and prosecutions of corporations.

Musk and the hospital execs in the news today must face threats of jail.

No fine will ever break a billionaire— they just pay out some funds and move on. But criminal charges can take down their lifestyle and hold them truly accountable.

@protecttruth Check it out! Tesla today advertises that their Model 3 range is 333 miles. Competitors generally fall in the 200 to 250 mile range and Tesla gets all sorts of positive press for their "range advantage." But it is all BS. Tesla's average is around 200 miles and in winter it can be as low as 124 miles. Still, they continue to be credited as the range leader. Lying works!

@protecttruth So, to be very clear here. Tesla has not only grossly exaggerated their vehicles range...

"Now, new Reuters reporting reveals how systematically Tesla managed that gap: by reportedly rigging its range estimation software, by manipulating what its dashboards showed drivers, and even by creating a “diversion team” to smother customer complaints."

Yeah, that sounds like a Musky Musk move.

Tesla exaggerated EV range so much that drivers thought cars were broken https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2023/07/tesla-exaggerated-ev-range-so-much-that-drivers-thought-cars-were-broken/

Smaller car batteries mean you can spread the love over more e-cars and soeed the transition.

But also: my (diesel) car has a 550 mile range. It outlasts my behind, by quite a bit.

TIL about git cherry-pick supporting ranges for commit hashes and that is awesome!

I've had a lot of fun at the today. I'm feeling good at 50 yards. At 100 yards, no. 🎯 It's a hot mess 😂

After we grabbed some yummy ramen 🍜 I'm back home and relaxing with the doggos 🐾 now.
