After a bit of code gymnastics I got the #RTS running and test-played it.
I got my butt handed to me by some rowdy Orcs.
To be fair, I took out a few. Sure, it probably was a bad move to infiltrate their territory with my band of incompetent mages. 2 of them outran the other 3 as we kited an Orc army back to our home territory where the Orcs happily slaughtered while destroying our buildings.
Scribbles note: Kite them the other way next time.
So, I finally got C&C working and I've been enjoying myself. Sad that every version that I've paid money for doesn't work. I had to rely on the community to get a working version. Luckily it was released as freeware years back.
Then I gave #Cataclismo a go. Developed by Digital Sun, the studio behind indie hit #Moonlighter, and published by #HumbleGames. The reveal trailer was fairly vague, so I was curious. The demo however greeted me with the most tedious tutorial I’ve played in a while. It gets better after that, but “tedious” still seems like an apt description for most parts of the game. There are not many new #RTS titles on the market, though, so regardless of that I’ll keep an eye on this in the future.
@vic@3goodthings That is the #Dune#RTS right? Is it similar to some other RTS you have played and how much of a complete game is it at this point? Was considering getting it too
I'm not one for "New Year's resolutions", but I am one for overly ambitious projects.
For 2023, Project365 is "One New Game Per Day".
Given that I have 634 unplayed games in my Steam account and {mumble} unredeemed bundle Steam keys, there's a reason my unplayed collection is tagged "Pile of Shame".
I'll pin this to my profile, and give a brief summary here each day (or x, if I miss x days due to work or stuff).
I'll play 15-30 minutes of (at least) one new game I've never played before (or played less than 15 minutes of). I'll give every game at least 15 minutes, even if I hate every minute of it.
I'm also open to suggestions; if you reply to this thread with a game, I'll schedule it, or tell you what I thought of it.
One of the things that's come up is that I have a bunch of games that I've played once, and not touched again.

Dark Future: Blood Red States is a car-combat RTS based on a TTRPG. Set in an alt-history post-apocalyptic wasteland thanks to the corporations that took over the United States when Nixon beat Kennedy, you are a road warrior, tasked with...
Yeah, honestly, I just kind of gave up trying to follow everything after a while.
You're a brain in jar, controlling a car that has to fight other cars until a boss car shows up, and if you win, you get cash to upgrade your car and run another mission.
Except you do not actually "control" the car. Your brain-in-a-jar tells the AI what to do, and the AI changes lanes, and fires the guns.
I did not win the first mission. I did not feel any desire to give it another try. I just found it frustrating to try and manage all the moving parts, before being overwhelmed by other cars while trying to kill the "boss" car.
I did not care for it, and it was the first game in a while that I was thankful when I hit the 15 minute mark.
