My point here is that this is something you can’t control, because 1) scrapers will scrape it anyway and 2) 99% of spammers don’t get your email address from scraping.

It’s a waste of time trying to control this. It’s like trying to keep your hair color secret.

@thomasfuchs I’ve had the same email address since 1997, have never posted a childishly “obscured” version of it, and for the past ten years #ProtonMail’s spam-fu has been kicking >99% of my unwanted email to the curb.

I actually don't know how to send PGP encrypted emails. Looked at a guide for thunderbird, I do not have enough mental capital for that rn.

A interesting organization asked for emails to be encrypted, and I am not even going to write them 😢

mpjgregoire,
@mpjgregoire@cosocial.ca avatar

@douginamug Once you get it set up, it's not probably not so hard to use. That's what I found using PGP with #gnus

I recommend #Protonmail to other members of my family; unlike me, they prefer webmail systems.

One more reason, why I still use #ProtonMail Bridge with #Thunderbird over the ProtonMail app: search. The app claims to be able to search the content, but it already struggles with the sender name. @protonprivacy

lx,
@lx@swiss.social avatar

For example, I search for the sender "Foo-Electronics" in my mailbox and the app finds nothing when I search for "Foo", no matter if I enter the word in the general search box or the sender name box. Meanwhile, works as expected and finds the message. @protonprivacy

I'm trying out ProtonMail!

The price is super reasonable, and I'm happy to pay rather than be surveiled.

Migrating my emails from gmail and configuring my custom domain was easy.

I missed having separate sections for unread and read emails, so I wrote a tampermonkey script to add that! It's available at https://codeberg.org/danvolchek/browser-scripts 😎

Next up is importing my calendar!

I'm excited to see this goes 😄 Thanks @protonprivacy !

Very happy to have got a privacy win this week for a hold out family member.

Helped them switch their email/domain name from their shitty, exploitative web host to a decent registrar with mail going to a paid #protonmail plan

Took less than 30 mins to switch everything and about 4 hours for MX records to propagate to Proton

They also asked me to delete their facebook account when I get time because they now find it a horrible platform - another win

I can’t reply to this confused #AntiCapitalist as they’ve already blocked me (good!): https://mas.to/@CatDad/112491941454860749

#Capitalism via customer subscriptions has been funding @protonprivacy from the start.

I was one of the 10,000 #ProtonMail backers mentioned in https://youtu.be/gFZ1peR9SiY and have since personified sunk cost with a >6 TB Visionary plan. But if #Proton dilutes that vision, I will be ahead of you in the line to migrate and unsubscribe.

I trust them to listen.

@protonprivacy Hello! Have there been perchance any issue reports for #ProtonMail on #macOS #Safari?

I'm seeing that sometimes e-mails fail to load, resulting in a blank screen, or sometimes looks like the website "crashes" (blank page, empty address bar). Clearing website data didn't help. No idea yet how to reproduce, but happens regularly. Web UI 5.0.40.3.

Any suggestions which debug info I could collect before mailing support? Thanks!

https://314159.xyz/post/prontonmail-api/

Du coup ça répond à ma question de comment ils font pour rechercher dans les métadonnées des messages chiffrés...

Le site porte a confusion : "Subject lines and recipient/sender email addresses are encrypted but not end-to-end encrypted."

Saw some folks on here talking about a survey from #ProtonMail, and noting that @protonprivacy was on Mastodon.

A plea went out to make sure to tell Proton in no uncertain terms that dabbling with AI would spell their doom. I agree.

Any service that is about privacy should have NOTHING to do with AI or LLMs... they are the antithesis of privacy.

I took the annual @protonprivacy annual survey today and they got generally glowing reviews from me. I have no hesitation about my upcoming annual renewal. That said, I am a bit concerned by the couple of questions regarding AI "features". I don't need a writing assistant, I really do not. I want to be able to access my Proton Drive on Linux and full Standard Notes integration.

1 app was removed: not having received answers to my question from for 1 year 3 months, them having the issue tracker closed a few months ago, now the entire repo was archived. There's a new repo, but app size increased even more – and still no per-ABI builds.

Thus I had to remove ProtonMail now from , and its return is rather unlikely. Please complain to them not me should this be an issue for you – and sorry for the sad news.

@protonprivacy I really want to migrate from Gmail to ProtonMail, but unfortunately my ProtonMail account was temporarily disabled. I have been without my email for days, pleasehelp. I have answered all of the questions that you have asked me and it has been radio silence. This morning I received a fully copied/pasted email asking me to answer the same exact questions again. Questions such as: Have you used the account to subscribe to other services? If so, please list a few of them. #protonmail

Discloses User Data Leading to Arrest in Spain

「 The core of the controversy stems from Proton Mail providing the Spanish police with the recovery email address associated with the Proton Mail account of an individual using the pseudonym ‘Xuxo Rondinaire.’ This individual is suspected of being a member of the Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalonia’s police force) and of using their internal knowledge to assist the Democratic Tsunami movement 」

Wait!! No dice nada de anonimato!! (como Proton).

En definitiva, estáis desviando el tiro. Again.

@protonprivacy there's some functionality I'd like to have in #ProtonMail.

I created a filter that based on a CC mail address put a Label on every match, favorited the mail and put it in a separate folder.

Great. Except that there were 1600 mails using that CC that were filtered which shouldn't have been matched. I made a mistake.

And now there's NO way to correct, except for manually opening each and every mail to unfavorite and remove the label, then place it in the folders they originated

There is so much irony in this https://restoreprivacy.com/protonmail-discloses-user-data-leading-to-arrest-in-spain/

  1. PSOE/Sumar coalition making a deal with Catalans to prop them into the gov't, then going after a Catalan independence supporter (just stating the events: I don't know much about Catalan independence movements)
  2. People blaming Proton mainly for this, while probably the best approach is to hold gov'ts into account when such things happen (not to say Proton is blameless in anything)
