Some plants are trickier to water than others :) Also, it needs a re-potting and better light setup (it looks like some parts are getting too much light and others too little). This is a Sedum Morganianum aka Donkey or Burro's Tail. In the old location it was hanging from a hook and now it's just kind of draped over a shelf. When the leaves fall off as they do with each move and watering I just drop them back into the pot.
Doing some spring pruning today. I usually like to let the plants grow the way they want, but in this case (and with some other plants I'll be trimming) they get too unbalanced and can topple over or stem weakening. This Pachyphytum Oviferum branched and offset/cloned a new smaller plant, and then grew sideways.
It was really cute and I wanted to leave it like this but the head of the original plant was too heavy to support over time.
One of my Sarracenias flowered this year for the first time. The flower has been around for a while but photos of it haven't really turned out well so far until this one.
#Plantstodon#Plants#xeriscape#squirrels#gardening We have (had) climbing roses that have been stripped bare by rock squirrels looking for water. Is there a climbing plant that is squirrel resistant? We replaced the annual flowering plants with catmint or baby rita, which the rock squirrels don't bother at all.
This Echeveria Lola succulent is about four years old. I had tried before to propagate it with leaf pullings without success. Late last summer it shifted in the pot with a different growth pattern (it looked healthy otherwise) and it seems it was making some room for more. This is the first watering of the year (I think) and I trimmed out the dead leaves that were covering the offsets and replaced it with a light cover of Seramis.
After nurturing this plant for the last 13 years, (acquired no higher than 30cm, it's now well over 2 metres tall) for the first time ever, it has flowered, producing 7 flowering spikes. This one opened this morning.
Many years ago I saw bird of paradise flowers blooming in the magnificent Kirstenbosch botanical gardens in Cape Town. I have coveted them ever since. It is bringing much joy and a touch of South African sun to the cold northern February #NeverGiveUp#gardening#plants#plantstodon
A day of discovering delicious food and exploring vibrant plant nurseries @ Sungai Buloh.
This area, once home to the second-largest leprosy settlement called the Valley of Hope, now thrives with beautiful nurseries which were once managed by leprosy patients, some of whom are still tending to the greenery.
Flushing and checking the mini bog. Everything is pretty well anchored in at this point, but I still got pretty nervous when pouring off the water. TDS (total dissolved solids) was creeping up (lower is better) and pH should be acidic, but might have been bit more acidic before flushing than the Pinguiculas actually like (not entirely sure on that though). I swapped the lighting to a lower wattage also.
It took a while with a few false starts and there were times I almost threw it away thinking it was dead but I'm glad I stuck with it and here's what it looks like now. This time they grew a lot of air roots which looks a bit weird but it seems stable.
Plant Masto, can anyone recommend a good lamp for overwinter for my succulent friend here?
Right now, Mildred is the healthiest she's ever been after spending the summer outside, but she loses color and stretches out bad whe I bring her in for the winter, even with the halo lamp I bought.
Is there a specific one that might be better at mimicking sunlight?
@Kbooki (just saw this as I just now found out about the #plantstodon hashtag :) )
I've found that Halo lamps only work well with a few specific succulents but for an Echeveria (or Graptoveria and similar) something like a Sansi LED grow bulb (standard lamp size) should work if they are available in your area/online. They have different wattages, but for a small-to-medium size plant a 10 or 15 watt (or around there) should work with a > 10 hour photo-period (maybe more) after acclimation.
