Happy #FossilFriday, check out this Allosaurus fossil with amethyst growing at its center! It's likely water rich with silica and a touch of iron leeched into the bone during the fossilization process, allowing the growth of crystals over time. A 2008 piece depicting Corosaurus. The only purpose for this was playing around in Photoshop and learning how to create painting and photo composite art.
Here's a painting (acrylic on card) of a Carboniferous coal forest, for a publisher back in 2008. Apart from the Hibbertopterus, which is wrong in a variety of ways, I think it still works okay.
In 2008 I painted (acrylic on card) a few dinosaur portraits for the cover of DINOSAUR HUNTER magazine, by Hachette. This was peak "awesomebro" for me and it began the process of an important stylistic change, but more about that another day. This is a monster-like Pachyrhinosaurus.

The 2008 book, A TIME TRAVELLER'S FIELD NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS OF DINOSAURS; I'm posting a few more of my illustrations (it is a fictional story, so be prepared for plenty of inaccuracies). Here is a juvenile Brachiosaurus.

A new PBS documentary, “Teilhard: Visionary Scientist,” premiered this month. Paleontologist, theologian, and mystic Pierre Teilhard de Chardin tried to be a faithful son of the Church and a faithful scientist as he brought both those together. Challenged during his life (and after), refused permission to publish, rehabilitated by recent popes.
The 2008 book, A TIME TRAVELLER'S FIELD NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS OF DINOSAURS; I'll post a bunch of my illustrations. It is a fictional story, so be prepared for plenty of inaccuracies, for example, there is no evidence for autotomy in Tanystropheus.
In 2007 I painted a mural on the ceiling of an exhibition room at Pools Cavern Visitor Centre, Derbyshire, UK. It was a Carboniferous scene, partly depicting life on land but mostly marine and freshwater species. It was fun but it demanded long hours and a few nights sleep in my car.
In 2007, Roar Publishing planned a book about evolution. I created some artworks for it but the book was shelved. Here is my draft drawing for the Ordovician spread that never happened...
