Map of the Ski to Sea relay race route, currently underway here in #BellinghamWA. Easily the biggest event of the year. Useful map whether you’re a fan or just trying to avoid the crowds!

Once upon a time, many folks told me that #lupines can't be #propagated by cuttings because they're very sensitive.

I decided to challenge that with #PlantPropagation experiments. I tried to propagate lupine cuttings in water, with rooting powder, with raw aloe vera gel & with raw honey & cinnamon. This is a successful new plant from honey/cinnamon rooting! I did it!

I'm so happy about this🥰

Infrequently used singletrack motocross/mtb trail halfway up Eagle Mt, connecting to other even less frequently used, but magical trails. Only becomes accessible in April, but worth it, as it hugs the mountain side for a few km that feel endless (as good singletrack does).

Old growth high on the Eagle Mt ridge, where you have a nice balance of sparsely spaced trees with a lush and varied undergrowth. It's especially striking as these days you invariably first have to cross tree farm/replanted forests of dense monoculture that tends to be dark and leave little room to create a rich undergrowth, and have a lot of debris from the felling of the original forest, making it vulnerable to fire. Invariably the replanted forest would be almost void of life, whereas the richer yet higher forest would be teeming with douglas squirrel, owls, ravens, eagles, etc. #forest #oldgrowth #ecosystem #pnw

Other people are going away for the (US) holiday weekend, barbecuing, hiking, whatever. I'm hauling gravel. The garden show is a month from yesterday. The countdown is on! I'm terrible about taking "before" photos but trust me this is a big improvement. And why yes, that is an electric on the right there in photo 1. 5 stars. Would recommend.

A photo looking the other way. A gravel path between a low retaining wall on the left and another one on the right, ferns and shrubs on the right as well. A massive tree trunk in the distance left and a huge ceramic vessel which had been featured in other posts. A blue wheelbarrow at the end of the path.

3 new will be built in , & to help supply upwards of 20 hydrogen stations for vehicles which can be powered off the element.

An electrolyzer uses to split water into hydrogen and oxygen & it’s believed the 3 stations will help support a North Vancouver facility which liquefies upwards of 15 tonnes of hydrogen per day.

#ParksCanada is defending the $12-million price tag for its plan to kill all the #FallowDeer on #SidneyIsland as part of an #EcologicalRestoration project.

The federal agency has been under intense #criticism for months for spending millions on a program to #eradicate fallow #deer on the 9 sq km island, a portion of which is part of the #GulfIslandsNationalParkReserve, while the rest is privately owned.

As extractive “wildcrafting” has become popular, supposedly treaty-protected #Indigenous access to ancestral gathering sites has diminished, says Michelle Week (Sinixt, Arrow Lakes), who runs x̌ast sq̓it, an Indigenous foods farm near #Portland #Oregon.

“You have the privilege to go out and gather these things without fear of harassment, but my community, who’s native to this place, we just don’t have that luxury.”

ANYWAY, this story about Oregon's third Camas Festival was very fun to report. 🗒️ And it was equally fun to illustrate. 🎨 Hope u like it! 😊

Texts I love to receive randomly:

"We processed our huge clams harvest from our weekend village clam digging. We have extra clam meat for you. Froze them & I can drop off some freezer bags filled with them. I'll be in your area tonight, so let me know when you'll be around!"

My Indigenous friends are very kind, generous & thoughtful 💗 They bring my family seafood, year round.

The are done! These are butter & manilla clams. Harvested in BC coastal waters by my Indigenous friends from 2 Wsanec First Nations ❤️
