  • Had a paper accepted for publication! 🥳

  • The peer review process was long, and in the mean time, my institution's read & publish agreement with the publisher expired... so now I can't publish as open access! 😞

I love when we run data challenges with NASA data as it is always amazing to see what diverse, innovative, and creative teams will do!

The Pale Blue Dot challenge saw teams from around the world create visualizations to address the Sustainable Development Goals. There is an entire gallery of results and they used a wide range of data from NASA Earth Observatories.

Also see the link for all the amazing partners that made this happen!

Had my @Cmastication moment yesterday on stage here in Brazil when I told the audience, "I grew up on a dairy farm in Indiana. My grandfather would regularly use a wrench as a hammer", when challenged that my idea to release peer-reviewed manuscript model code-bases as open-source could result in people misusing the tools we share openly and thus should refrain. You can only educate. You can't enforce. More good comes from sharing than harm, IMO. #OpenScience

On #SPR as palliative care for the disease of scientific publishing without making public.

Why do so many European countries grant scientific authors who receive public funding a right of #republication (or #secondarypublication) that allows them to make their work freely available to the public even if they have assigned their copyright to a commercial publisher? Why is publication not enough?
