Lyrics:
9 to 5 / For service and devotion
You would think that I / Would deserve a fat promotion
Want to move ahead / But the boss won't seem to let me
I swear sometimes that man is / Out to get me
They let you dream / Just a watch 'em shatter
You're just a step on the boss man's ladder / But you got dreams he'll never take away
Good morning and Happy Wednesday / May / International Workers' Day.
The United States is one of the only countries in the world to not acknowledge International Workers' Day / Labor Day on May Day / May 1st. The active denial of comradery by the US of American laborers with our international allies is definitely purposeful. Even as the date was selected based on a historic strike in the US.
We should acknowledge the struggle of the labor movement and workers across the globe.
Have a wonderful Wednesday / International Workers' Day.
"Tae the Lords o’ Juteopolis the weavers hae spoke
'If ye rug doon oor wages, as sure as the cleck
We’ll fling up the shuttle; we’ll sune lat ye pree
The pluck o’ the lasses o’ Bonnie Dundee.'
(Chorus) - Then hurrah for the lasses, sae bonnie an' fair
Let them stand by their colours, an' tyranny dare;
While there's hearts left to feel, and hands gleg tae gie,
Nae fear o' starvation tae Bonnie Dundee"

WEEK 31: All five entrances to BAE Systems Salmesbury Aerodrome Arms Factory near Blackburn have been blockaded by activists from Manchester Palestine Action. Sites in Scotland and Wales, as well as the Department for Trade in London, have also been targeted as part of a coordinated action on International Workers Day.
As part of my graphic “Women Warriors” project (started in 2018), I’m a bit late, but this year I’m dedicating it to Palestinian women. This is a sneak peak, tomorrow I’ll post the picture on @alx.fsl@pixelfed.social

R to @EU_Commission: In February 2024, we agreed on a new Directive on combating violence against women and domestic violence.
It criminalises:
🔹 Physical, psychological, economic and sexual violence against women both offline and online
🔹 Female genital mutilation and forced marriage as stand-alone crimes
🔹 The most widespread forms of cyber-violence, including the non-consensual sharing of intimate images.
Was just thinking again, this time on #IWD2024 of how many times men have represented my ideas as their own, taken my ideas & work without permission (uncredited and unpaid), and how they've faced zero consequences for it. In fact, they advance and get paid more while I fall down the ladder and get paid less. (My pinned tweet is just one example.)
Don't just hire more women. Kick out this type of man - make them pay consequences for unethical actions. #Sexism
If you want to learn and hear from First Nations women in this part of the world and how they're regaining their space, this is a great article about Nuu-cha-nulth women:
I've taught code + tech to middle school girls but the times I'd bring my #HamRadio in & get all the girls on the air were some of the MOST fun school events I've run.
#AmateurRadio may seem like a throwback hobby but it's as vibrant as ever. Yet there is still a problem with sexism, misogyny, and ham radio often feeling like an old boys club.
We founded Cascadia Radio as a way to work on diversity & inclusivity in the hobby. Join us!
It's International Women's Day and I just wanna say thank you to all the women, including those who came to that designation a little later in life, here on #Mastodon and the #Fediverse. Without you this place would literally just be reply guys… IMAGINE.
✨ We are thrilled that ESCALATOR- SADiLaR showcased our community and invited us to share about what we do on their blog 🙌🏽 as part of their #IWD2024 celebration 🎉
She talks about her involvement in R-Ladien and @rOpenSci 😃
Her advice:
💜 “Don’t be hard on yourself, believe in yourself, believe in your journey and your chosen path, and always belong to a community and get support when you need it."
