In a horrifying turn of events, the City of Toronto🎪 is referring people who are seeking shelter space to encampments.
⛺️ 🏕 ⛺️ 🏕
We have 2 confirmations from St Stephen-in-the-Fields and Clarence Square.
You may remember a couple of summers ago, when the City was RAZING encampments and beating the shit out of anyone standing in their way, and then we went to 14 Division to wait for our jailed friends to be released, so they pepper-sprayed us,
... or perhaps you have fond memories of the SEVENTEEN DAYS they imprisoned an Indigenous man in his tiny house (the last remaining one in the City, because THEY DESTROYED THE REST OF THEM) and then when that didn't work, the cops kidnapped him and drove him to Trenton in the middle of the night while we sat outside 52 Division until 4am...
oh wait, no, those are MY "fond memories".
Apparently, it's just bygones now, and the City will just point you to a park, no tent, no sleeping bag, and let people who already have precariously little take care of you.
We need tougher rules on #rentcontrol, particularly in BC and Ontario where affordable housing is merely a pipe dream for so many families. #cdnpoli#housingforall
Anarchists and community partners are organizing against forcing unhoused folx into interment camps and reinstating Miami Beach as a sundown town! @noberesistance@SMASHMiami@BuddySystemMIA@greenbackdistro@miaracialequity
On Wednesday, September 13, The Miami Beach City Commission will consider and vote on a proposal to authorize Miami Beach police to arrest poor people for sleeping in public if they refuse shelter and "services."
Shelter or jail is violent coercion, genocidal policy of internment of unhoused folx, and violates the rights to freedom of movement. This is especially horrific considering that there are no jails nor available shelter beds in Miami Beach. The majority of unhoused folx are black — thus police would be forcibly removing them from the City at night, back to the mainland of Miami for interment.
Miami Beach would be a sundown town, again.
Join us at the Miami Beach City Commission chambers and give public comments opposing this inhumane proposal Wednesday, September 13th at 8:30am at 1901 Convention Center Drive (Second floor: Meeting rooms 222-225)
Join us at the Miami Beach City Commission chambers and give public comments opposing the inhumane criminalization of unhoused folx! This proposal means jail or shelter for all unhoused folx in Miami Beach — deportation and internment on the mainland.
#RentControl laws on the national level? Biden administration offers a not-so-subtle push
by Medora Lee, September 6, 2023
"Rent control would prevent #corporate#landlords from profiting by using low-interest, government-backed financing while raising #rents and evicting #tenants, Hoang said.
"Though that may be true, critics say, rent control could hurt millions of people, including some who supplement their retirement with rental income.
"Among 49.5 million rental units, nearly 46% are small rental properties of one to four units, the National Association of Realtors said. More than 70% of those are owned by individuals, or mom-and-pop landlords. About 70% are also managed by them.
"'Cost of rental housing is expensive,' Geno said. 'If they can’t pass on expenses they don’t control, many owners will be upside down.'"
"Many mom-and-pop landlords were forced into forbearance during the 1½-year pandemic-related rent moratorium that allowed tenants to forgo rent payments without fear of eviction. Some even had to sell their properties and defer maintenance on their rentals."
And then corporations bought them up, tore down or gutted the places, then created condos or high-rent housing out of the reach of most people! Creating affordable housing would be great, but it takes time. And judging by the number of homeless and those seeking climate change and political asylum, this problem needs to be solved sooner than later!

A Toronto police officer shot and seriously injured a man despite there being “no risk” of harm or death to any officer or citizen — the conclusion of a newly released internal report that backs the victim’s account that he was fired upon with little warning while alone in a park.

The report — WHICH ALSO REVEALS MISCONDUCT BY FOUR OTHER OFFICERS involved in the incident — is the first time Toronto police have acknowledged wrongdoing by police in the high-profile shooting, which last fall resulted in Davis being charged with aggravated assault by Ontario’s police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU).

Good news! Not only is my account no longer negative but I have the $15 I needed to purchase my physical drivers license! As soon as it comes in the mail (or maybe I get a temp one) I'll try driving for the first time since 2017!

Loaded down with stuff to give away: warm clothing (gently-used and freshly washed); tent and accompanying camping gear that I no longer use now that I am a tree-sleeper; then a dash over to Street Knit to pickup warm knitted gear to bring back.
