"In the latest local elections, the Greens took more seats from the Conservatives than from Labour (32 to 31). It’s the second wave of a dramatic surge: in May last year, three-quarters of the party’s gains were from the Tories across the south, south-east & east of England. Much of this was in picturesque areas where, says Green co-leader Adrian Ramsay, locals feel “overlooked” or “left behind”. #GreenParty#UKPol
#ClimateDiary Hugely important and heartening interpretation of yesterday’s local elections:
Rishi Sunak's decision to row back on a number of decarbonisation policies has "done less than nothing for his chances of re-election", according to campaigners who today argued the local election results demonstrated how moves by the government to weaken UK climate efforts had been roundly rejected by voters.
RT by @CarolineLucas: 🌱 Thank you to everyone who voted Green yesterday! Six Green Party councillors have been elected to the city council, meaning the council is under no overall control.
For anyone who's interested & wants to know about the Green Party of the United States, we've been doing workshop videos to fill in the gap of many others questions.
Join Jill Stein Friday May 3rd for a virtual rally with legendary Columbia University Professor Jeffrey Sachs!
Dr. Sachs recently endorsed Jill, writing "The true hope for foreign policy sanity and a fair economy is the lead peace candidate, Jill Stein. The main work for peace activists in the next few weeks is to ensure that Stein is indeed on the ballot in every state in November."
While #GenocideJoe was being fêted by bootlicking, complicit "journalists", Jill Stein was on the frontline against fascism, being assaulted and arrested by militarized police. Yes, this election is about democracy vs. #authoritarianism, and #fascist#JoeBidenmust be defeated!
Wise words from Carla Denyer of the UK Green Party, who questioned at what level the decision to actually engage British aircraft was made in last nights events in the Middle East:-
“I am deeply concerned about how this decision to deepen our involvement was made and in what further action the government proposes to involve UK armed forces. Britain’s military involvement must be scrutinised and debated by parliament. We should not allow ourselves to be dragged into a Middle East war.
Last night's violence demonstrates again that there must be resolution to the interconnected conflicts of the Middle East, including in Gaza where a ceasefire remains urgent. We are at a moment of grave peril and it is incumbent on all countries, including the UK, to find ways to reduce rather than contribute to conflict.”
Your yearly reminder that there are more than two political parties in the UK and despite the voting system being first-past-the-post, which favours the Reds and the Blues, you can + should vote for whoever you like. :face_sunglasses_fb:
I have always voted Green in the UK and if you like the sound of their policies, then you should consider it too. :tongue_wink_fb:
Green Party candidate Jill Stein on C-SPAN Washington Journal this morning, who is largely responsible for putting Trump in the White House, denies being a spoiler. The overturn of Roe v Wade was the direct result of her candidacy. My question: is it your intention to get elected or to punish the Democratic Party? #cspanwj#politics#USpolitics#greenparty
#Bristol#GreenParty candidate has part of her finger bitten off by a dog while posting a leaflet through a letterbox. Ouch! The candidate seemed quite relaxed about it in reported comments, and I really hope the dog owners vote for her!
This is a very powerful graphic. Where there is choice it dispels doubt. It re-enforces Green policy and shows direction of travel. The Green Party should use it more for the local elections on May 2nd imho.
#GreenParty sees chance of second MP as Labour voters waver in Bristol
Poll predicts Green co-leader Carla Denyer will win in new #Bristol Central seat by siphoning off votes from disillusioned left
Frank Adlington-Stringer is standing as the Green Party candidate for East Midlands Mayor.
Unlike the other candidates, he hasn't any big businesses donating to his campaign. He needs to raise a minimum of £5,000 to even get on the ballot paper.
Frank is North East Derbyshire's first-ever elected Green Councillor, and at the age of 26 is their youngest-ever elected representative.
I saw someone saying if the UK had PR 20% of our MPs would be from far right parties. That’s probably correct, but I’d prefer that to the current situation where it’s over 50%
In an ideal USA, there would be dozens of political parties representing different viewpoints, all of which agreed that whatever our economic views, human rights come first.
For those exploring the most basic of alternatives:
Green Party: Strong belief in human rights, managed (socialist) economic policies with a strong environmental bent.
Libertarian Party: Strong belief in human rights esp. individual liberties, free market advocates. Were supporting LGBTQ+ rights when the Democrats currently in office were calling homosexuality a national security risk.
Those are the two most successful third parties in the USA.
The Libertarian party claims 300+ people in office, while the Greens claim around 140. That's a far cry from the "never get elected" line the bipartisan monolith would have you believe. So even IF you think that you have to vote for Biden... you could step up to make things better.
So... is it about making the world a better place... or is it about "your" team winning?
I hear so many people say "any vote not for Biden is a vote for Trump."
That is absolutely ridiculous.
What if I didn't vote at all?
If I choose to vote, I will vote for a party and candidate that represents my values. I will vote Green.
Dems and MAGA both support more oil drilling. Dems and MAGA both support Israel and the genocide of Palestinians.
Dems and MAGA both want more cars and more pollution. Fuck them both. #GreenParty#JillStein#Green2024#ClimateCrisis#Environment#FreePalestine#GenocideJoe#TrumpForPrison#EndFossilFuels#FuckCars
"‘Utterly shameful’: Suspended Labour politician slams Starmer’s Gaza stance"
The suspension of Martin Abrams in Lambeth and other Labour councillors elsewhere has little or nothing to do with their positions on Gaza. Their crime was to support Green Party motions in councils where Labour is losing votes to the Greens.
For Labour, the very existence of the Green Party is anathema.
A new MRP poll (historically reliable) shows that the Green Party of Englandandwales is likely to have two MPs after the next election. We are hoping for four, but the challenge is on in Herefordshire and Norfolk. Bristol and Brighton are ours for the taking and retaining.
Other than that, Optional Identity Mark is set for a stunning landslide victory in its historic heartland of North Britain.
