This reminds me of 25 years ago when I was working for the European Space Agency validating orbits for interplanetary spacecraft such as Rosetta, Mars Express and Smart-1.

There is no such thing as a universal ‘now’, so when navigating over large distances one has to switch between reference frames (coordinate systems). In my case these were terrestrial, solar, Martian and lunar. For Smart-1 mission planning we didn’t have a fully coordinated lunar time, but what we did then has since been refined into what is described here.

I'm getting the impression that, on a technical level, Mastodon is all a bit sealing wax and string.

Update: 17 March...

Still not resolved. Sysadmin says he'll look at the problem in the coming week. Around 10% of followers have manually re-followed at @hesgen.

Update: 22 March...

I still cannot migrate the account. So, it's possibly time to abandon this platform, if not social media as a whole, and continue to use twitter as no more than a bot for posting links to stuff published on substack and elsewhere. Life's too short for all this faffing about.

Update: 27 March...

I still cannot move my account from qoto.org, so I guess that's it. Be warned that my Mastodon presence may disappear soon, and without warning.
