Any recommendations for moving away from #gmail? Preferably somewhere that isn’t gonna implement #AI for #email? Can’t use my ISP’s email cos we want to change away as soon as OpenReach do their thing

I remember the days when people were furious Google was scanning their emails to serve ads. Now we’ve reached the point that everything you send and receive is being filtered through its AI model and you’re expected to love it.

A definite increase in #Gmail spam lately. But hey, when you're allocating all those data center clusters to generate annoying, simplistic, and inaccurate Search AI Overviews that nobody asked for and users can't turn off, SOMETHING has got to give! #Google
Gmail crypto spam is a real problem lately. Look at all this calendar/ics #spam received from #gmail accounts today. Maybe google aren't interested in stopping it.
Don't get me wrong... Microsoft's ability to block legitimate mail, allow spam through, AND still be a giant source of spam for decades is fucking epic. But Oracle is trying their best to compete. Lookout Microsoft, there's a new jackass in town!
Was interested, toward the end of that conversation, to hear my own experiences with #Gmail validated. I've been running my own mail server(s) for 20 years and Gmail is becoming increasing troublesome.
I don't want to just throw up my hands and concede that we're heading towards a world where Google and Microsoft only accept mail from each other.
Does anybody know of a collection of resources tracking the state of play with email? (I'd Google it, but of course search engines are broken now.)
Wciąż zastanawiam się, jakie rozwiązanie byłoby najlepsze, by tworzyć unikalne adresy #eMail, przy pomocy mojej domeny.
Długo używałem typowego rozwiązania z "+", w poczcie #GMail, ale to słabo się sprawdza, gdyż:
• Spora liczba stron internetowych odrzuca adresy poczty z "+", i w tej chwili już nie jest to kwestia kopiowania kiepskich "gotowców", lecz celowego blokowania łatwych do pozyskania, unikalnych adresów.
• Jest dosyć "oczywiste", i łatwo z tego wydostać podstawowy adres skrzynki.
Rozważam trzy opcje:
Catch-all, czyli opt-out — zgarniam pocztę z wszystkich możliwych adresów w domenie. Łatwo to ustawić, i mogę na bieżąco wymyślać unikalne adresy. Na minus, będę zgarniał mnóstwo spamu, i będę musiał blokować sporo nazw użytkownika, często używanych przez spamerów.
Catch-all z prefiksem — zgarniam pocztę z adresów, które zaczynają się od określonego prefiksu. Pomysł podobny do "+", ale bez znaków specjalnych i mniej oczywisty. Dzięki temu mógłbym jednocześnie szybko tworzyć nowe adresy, a generyczny spam by mnie omijał. Niestety, nie wydaje mi się, żeby większość dostawców poczty pozwalała na coś podobnego.
Jawnie tworzone aliasy, czyli opt-in — tworzę aliasy, ilekroć ich potrzebuję. Sporo przy tym wysiłku, ale najpewniej to jedyne "czyste" rozwiązanie. I musiałbym zawsze mieć przy sobie garść wolnych aliasów, na wypadek gdybym musiał komuś podać maila.
Hmm, blocking #Gmail from my little web forum has annoyed some users, but also vastly reduced the amount of russian spam accounts needing manual filtering, as the majority of those were using Gmail addresses.
It all started with Gmail refusing our emails, so users couldn't sign up anyways. Not sure it's a bad thing now.
I've had my corporate email handled via both #GMail and #O365 for many years now and I can say with utmost confidence that both are HORRIBLE AS FUCK email services.
Including randomly deleting incoming email because "deduplication" etc.
I'd never accept that level of "service" for my personal email.
Also fiddling with my #hamster configuration. Originally I just wanted it as a replacement for the leafnode #usenet proxy server on my windows machine, but #thunderbird and #Gmail are making enough problems lately that I wonder if using it as a proxy mail server wouldn't also be reasonable.
I mean, the program is like 5 mb in size, which 20 years ago might have been sizeable, but right now is a drop in the bucket.
I wonder if it would be possible to configure my #postfix mail server to reject emails from #GMail and #Microsoft (replying they are not accepted because of spying users) 🤔
Is it a good idea? Is there anybody doing that?
I know it will cut me out of many contacts but I really don't want to be targeted by their algorithms.

Et qu'en conséquence, s'ils veulent que je les lise et que je leur réponde, il va falloir qu'ils se servent d'un autre service d'#email.
So, I just discovered that #Gmail can't search for Danish letters - so a search for the word "skål", which means "bowl" (or "cheers") returns all results for "skal", meaning "shall/should/must/can" (and also "shell")...
Pretty sure this is new; I've had Gmail for two decades & never seen problems searching in Danish before.
Which means they changed something that made this happen.
