OK @fdroidorg this is just weird. The official Mastodon client depends on non-free services? Sometimes a bit more information could be helpful. #FLOSS#FDroid#Mastodon
Anyone know why @fdroidorg marks the @Mastodon android app with "Anti-Features" as "This app promotes or depends entirely on a non-free network service"?
PSA: if you installed the official Mastodon app via #fdroid you sadly will not be notified about the latest update and can't install it either. This could only be fixed by reinstalling, which should not be that big of a problem because it saves almost no local data.
Guess I have to use my range for something good for a change. Please read and #RT if the #Fediverse is important to you.
A few days ago, @Gargron, maintainer of #Mastodon and the big instance mastodon.social, wrote a blogpost explaining how the official app will soon feature his instance as a default.
Voices of the community weren't heard. He even doubled-down on it.
We have to prevent this change.
Please Eugen, #DontDoTheElon.
2/2 We as humans love #iconography and apps with fun icons. The more fashionable the better. Icons really, really, really, really matter. We know because for a year we ignored Fediverse, on #FDroid it had an almost satanic ritual icon. On a good day with jarring colours.
Icons matter.
In 2021 we began work on a replacement. In 2022 we finally arrived at a good design with a (2/3)
Maybe not a big deal, but it seems like a new level for #FDroid: people paying money to promote based on F-Droid's principals, in this case, opt-out data collection is tracking.
@calculsoberic@molly0xfff I am enthusiastic about blockchain, but I know there are issues like with everything we as humans ever made. I am the most enthusiastic about privacy coins. Even more than regular ones! However, and here comes the interesting part, seems loke #GNU is actively developing an electronic financial system that is not blockchain based and is private by default. It is called GNU #Taler. It is available from #Fdroid.
Using #relatica with recent #Friendica versions and the web client in parallel already is quite a pleasant experience. Now all it probably needs is notifications to replace Mastodon-API clients here. 🙂
It would be cool if #FDroid took the opposite approach to Google Play App Signing, by using their build system to create a code transparency key that developers could then bundle with their app, and then developers could in turn sign that bundle with their own signing key.
That way F-Droid could distribute apps that they’ve verified reproducible builds for (and check the CT signature in the F-Droid app), without having to sign the app with their own key—a common complaint about the default F-Droid repo.
