Ok, we started our Spain trip in , a large city with a bit of the feel of Paris -- wide streets and balconied apartments -- but in the dry, hot climate of the Mediterranean. Lots of interesting modernist architecture from the last century, and a truly stunning amount of graffitti!

Anyway, starting you off slowly with a collection of interesting doors...

Photo of a large wooden door with an ornate metalwork transom, surrounded by stone columns and header. A balcony with french doors and shutters is visible near the top of the photo, and the stone to either side of the columns is marked with horizontal lines that give the building a neoclassical feel. The door is a double; each door has three large squares, with metalwork at their corners, bevels inside, and a circle of flat wood in the center. It looks at once elegant and prepared for assault!

The wooden door is marked with hammered nailheads around vertical ovals, and a metal handle in the middle of each. The two metal gates have been extensively graffittied, and indeed there is black writing on the base of the wooden door and on the cement/stone wall to the left. Above the doors is a long balcony spanning the width of the photo, with narrow spindles (iron? wood?). Three shuttered french doors open onto it. On the street in front of the sidewalk is a broad yellow zig-zag indicating no parking (I think).
Unusual curved wooden double door in a cement/stone doorframe, inset into a wll of very narrow tan bricks, a typical style in this part of Spain. The doors are relatively simple in terms of ornament, but the opening is a pointed arch, like the hull of a boat or the interior of a gothic cathedral. I think this was the side door of a small church, but am not certain. A tree reaches in from the right, and a motorcycle is parked on the cobbled walk in front of the building.
