Hi all, I saved this drum kit from the skip but while the USB is detected by both Ubuntu and windows 11 I am a a loss as to how to get sound out of it. It seems that I need to match it to a DAW but i can't seem to get #audacity or #ardour to detect it as an audio import source.
I finally decided to grow up and learn #Ardour and dump #Reaper as my #DAW. No shade on Reaper, it's a fabulous piece of proprietary software that runs well on #Linux. It's reasonably priced and highly functional. All things being equal, I'd rather use and support free software. So, when I got the point where I made my first export in Ardour, it asked me to become a subscriber, which I did, gladly, as the software works very well (for my purposes).
Huh, sounds like I finally made some actual progress towards the kind of dirty kick I want to make with #Ardour and #geonkick – turns out the secret was to just do everything with brownian noise. :thinkhappy:
This is literally just two layers of brownian noise with highpass filters – one for the dirty piep (like in a piepkick, but a bit lower freq) in the beginning and the other for the kick itself.
Fair warning: It's fucking loud, because it should be. :)
As #flatpak has become more popular, I have tried to help make #plugin (s) Flatpak ready.
Interestingly, I keep coming across a general rejection, like "it's not worth the effort", "it's not the future", etc.
I am aware that it has drawbacks. But are you also against it?
Apart from the amount of space it can take up, I have to say that I've never really had any complaints, and I've sort of already accepted it as a kind of convenient, non-system #linux#packagemanager, I guess. #linuxaudio
@gozes Exactly! I have 212 #plugin (s) installed and even though in the beginning many did not work with #bitwigstudio or #ardour#flatpak, now there's only a hand full of plugins left with Flatpak issues.
On a scale of 1 to 4, how satisfied are you with the #software available for #linux in your particular area of interest? For me it would be somewhere between 2 and 3. #linuxaudio#apps#plugins
@amadeus
too late for the poll. I'm happy with what's available. #bitwig coming to linux was the gamechanger for me in terms of instruments and composition support . For recording alone #ardour had and has been excellent for a long time now.
Unless it's on purpose? It's been a while since I haven't tried to build it. 😅 It's one of the most nerdy/enjoyable audio software I played with : it basically gives you the building blocks of a synth (as in, its electronic components), and you arrange them as you want, plugging their inputs and outputs, inserting other sources or effects in the middle through #Jackd, etc. And in the end, you can just load it as an instrument in #Ardour (or directly through Jackd).
There are some software that we need to preserve, meaning both keeping them under development and also keep them as community-driven projects.
I'll list here the projects I think that should be preserved, and I invite you all to comment the projects you think are essential to be on the list (please provide URL as well)
Bon je suis assez content de mon résultat. Je n'avais jamais utilisé #Ardour avant, mais je me suis amusé avec tous mes filtres. Au final j'ai une holotape correcte. Et je suis un mauvais acteur. Mais bon... #jdr#Fallout
How far has the DAW come in terms of MIDI management?
I've heard it was a tad clunky a few years ago. Has it been improved ? (Or maybe it was feom the start)
