Bloody hell. Deeply ashamed of Germany.

Prof Abu Sitta, rector of Glasgow and surgeon, can’t enter France to give a talk because Germany has put a one year ban on him entering Europe.

A day later it’s good to see Abu Sitta’s Schengen wide ban covered extensively in the media and on here - the vast majority are outraged that Germany has banned a surgeon and ICJ witness from entry to the EU.

If at this stage you still think Germany’s ban is right (because of a smear campaign against Abu Sitta as a “terrorist sympathiser”) whilst of course Germany would receive Netanyahu with open arms: just think about what all this says about Germany, and about you.

Interesting. Abu Sitta ⬆️ mentions that Glasgow University had substantial arms investments when he was appointed rector. I was trying to find out whether this has ended now - not sure - but saw that

a) Glasgow U has one of the longest standing divestment campaigns (GAAF) - GU ended fossil fuel investments in 2014

b) all this because BAE (as well as oil industry) are right there!

And there are ongoing protests against BAE and its arms exports right now in Glasgow

@pvonhellermannn BTW, he first claimed on X to speak today at the French senat (source Al Jazeera). There's no meeting of the senat today: https://www.senat.fr/ordre-du-jour/ordre-du-jour.html
Now he speaks of the parliament. But the Assemblé Nationale today has only the Economic Affairs Committee working (nothing for speeches): https://www2.assemblee-nationale.fr/agendas/les-agendas
edit: First claim was the parliament, the second the senate.

Always check your sources.

@NatureMC @pvonhellermannn So we shouldn’t let him speak? Or do we hear the difficult voices and provide a counter narrative? It’s a tricky line to draw. Is he inciting violence or trying to understand it?

@ScotHomestead It's in the article. I post it because there are always two sides.
And yes, he openly promoted terrorism in social media. Such a ban is not imposed lightly.
Incidentally, I can't find any trace in France of an invitation to speak in front of our parliament. Only his own words. All the more reason to check the other side too.

@NatureMC @ScotHomestead of course there are two sides. The two articles you post are both in deeply right-wing outlets that support Netanyahu and the bombing of Gaza 100%. That’s why they write this.

All i can say is: i am on the side of those who oppose the 7 months onslaught and total destruction of Gaza. I am with Abu Sittah.

@pvonhellermannn great, beyond the racism, Germany seems to love so much the right-wingers to give them another way to enhance anti-EU sentiments.
