Brixham, a Devon harbour town, has been struck by an illness caused by a microscopic parasite - cryptosporidium - in the water!

About 16,000 households and businesses in the Brixham area have been told by South West Water (SWW) not to use their tap water for drinking without boiling and cooling it first.

Not an expert but it does strike me as symptomatic of the state of our water companies and water system.

@pvonhellermannn
The State of "English" water companies, Scotland water is still publicly owned.
I'm not saying it's prefect but there has been no shareholder dividend meaning maintenance and safety have been forsaken to boost profit.

@spytfyre do you want me to remove the #UKpolitics hashtag or add change it to “our English” water companies?

@pvonhellermannn very kind of you to offer and not immediately jump into defensive or attack mode, I salute your approach and will add you to follow as a result!
I wasn't expecting an edit, and your followers probably wouldn't notice after the original party anyway, do as you feel, unnecessary really as my correction is there (and I haven't even read the article mainly because I'm pretty certain they won't mention Scotland one iota and I'm lazy, and it's Sunday morning, I need coffee not anger)

@spytfyre 😊 Thank you! The article is really only about Devon and South West Water, no general comments at all, that was just me commenting. I do fully appreciate that using UK for things that don’t apply is Scotland is frustrating and wrong - i just can’t quite being myself to add “England” or “English”, that feels wrong, too! As your comment is there, and since I simply said “our”, I think i will just leave it. Need to have coffee, too! 😊

@pvonhellermannn I'm always amazed by the capacity of shifting the focus in our economic system that gets its priority completely wrong: a possible healthcare emergency due to a broken private water management and to contamination of rivers, but sure, let's focus on the lack of tourists.

@alx yes!! I was really struck by that too. Also reminded of when there were fires in Greece a couple of years ago and all the articles focused on tourists complaining about their evacuation not being handled well. Not quite the same I know, but misplaced tourist-centring in both.
