DEFEND BOREAL FOREST

Chainsaws are cutting down #NorthAmerica 's largest and wildest #forest -- and for what?

To transform century-old #trees into "ultra soft" toilet paper?

Do we really need to level #woods that shelter and sustain #bears -- as well as #wolves, #caribou and billions of #birds? 🐻

It's 2023. There are better ways to meet people's needs without destroying one of the world's last great forests.

Imagine standing in the center of the boreal, somewhere in the #Canadian province of #Manitoba.

Nearly 1 billion acres of forest surround you. To the west, the forest stretches to #Alaska 's #BeringSea coast. To the east, it runs all the way to #Newfoundland and #Labrador. It even skips over the Atlantic into parts of #Greenland.

You may see some of the world's last great #WildlifeMigrations here. #Caribou travel as many as a thousand miles to calve. #Salmon swim up the forest's wild rivers to spawn. In the summer, billions of #birds, from whooping #cranes to #ArcticTerns, breed here. 🐦

As the #boreal 's billions of #trees breathe in #CarbonDioxide and breathe out #oxygen, the forest rivals the #Amazon for its role in cooling our overheated #planet. 🌳

It's a vast and amazing place. Yet if history teaches anything, it's this: What #nature evolves over millennia, people can destroy in an instant.

Today, only a fraction of the #boreal is protected. The pace of #logging is increasing. 🪵

Consider #Procter&Gamble (P&G), the parent company of #Charmin, #Puffs, #Bounty and more: About 40% of the wood pulp that #P&G uses for its North American paper products comes from #Canada, where the #timber industry's chainsaws are busy chipping away at the #boreal.
