Solar Passes 100% of Power Demand in California

For 56 days in a row, electricity from solar, wind, and water (hydro) power has exceeded 100% of power demand on California’s main grid for part of the day. Also, going back further, that has been achieved in 80 out of the last 86 days. That is since early March (International Women’s Day), late winter.

I do a lot of longer posts on Facebook. I use it to clear my head before I dig into whatever project I'm working on.

I realize that many are not on Facebook, so I may start posting some of these on the blog I rarely use, heh. Here's one of those times:

A 25-year study reveals how empathy is passed from parents to teens to their future children

“…new research shows that parents who express empathy toward their teenagers may give teens a head start in developing the skill themselves. In addition, adolescents who show empathy and support toward their friends are more likely to become supportive parents, which may foster empathy in their own offspring.

A Woman Who Left Society to Live with Bears Weighs in on “Man OR Bear”

“In patriarchal societies where masculinity is coded as power and control, men often try to get closer to women through power and control. The range of how this plays out is vast. It could be inconsequential, or it could end a woman’s life.”

Plenty of folks don't vote in “small" elections that only involve local seats.

Here's an excellent example of why they should reconsider and especially vote in those.

In many ways, these elections are even more important. They directly impact the community you live in.

@osi I sent an email to the license-discuss list (I’m a member of the list), but I can’t tell whether the list actually got it. It doesn’t show up in the archives (nothing from May is in the archives, but maybe no mail has been sent this month?): https://lists.opensource.org/pipermail/license-discuss_lists.opensource.org/

Who should I contact to find out if the message was actually received? Maybe there’s moderation happening, and no one has approved it yet?

vmbrasseur,
@vmbrasseur@social.vmbrasseur.com avatar

@ramsey FWIW, I'm not showing any messages to l-d this month (yet). So the archive is trustworthy on that point.

@ramsey It hasn't shown up in my l-d folder yet, so it probably got caught somewhere along the line.

Dear presenters:

If you're showing off a product/project, please either:

a) Don't use real data, or
b) DO NOT show PII for real people.

ESPECIALLY if the video is going to end up on YouTube afterward.

This is 2024. I'm absolutely flabbergasted that this reminder is still needed in this day and age.

Brilliant and overdue. So many people will be able to benefit from this work.

Manufacturing plastics is a highly emissive process. The world needs to shrink production rapidly to stay within the 1.5 °C global temperature rise.
