I cannot logically discuss Israel/Gaza with people who believe this atrocity began with Hamas war crimes on 10/7.

If you ignore a 60 year illegal military occupation, 700K illegal settlements, a two decade blockade, 7000 Palestinians indefinitely detained in Israeli prison w/o charge, 800 Palestinian children indefinitely detained in Israeli prison w/o charge & denied access to counsel or parents, & at least 240 Palestinians killed by IDF from 1/1-10/6/23—then you are not engaging in good faith

It seems to me the current crisis is due in part from the assassination of Israeli PM Yitzhak Rabin by right wing Israeli extremists. There was a legit chance for peace in 1995. Afterwards, the Palestinian and Israeli people and the whole world knew that seeking peace for any leader means risking death from internal [and external] extremists. This situation gave rise to Bibi and legitimacy for Hamas.

    Absolutely true. We have certainly seen the popular vote be irrelevant to the outcome. My fear is that legal challenges may corrupt the outcome as there is ample evidence the GOP is preparing to contest results in key states if they lose.

    Honest question for white people that don't consider themselves racist:

    White nationalists have been vocal about their attacks on DEI. These are literally the same people that talk about Charlottesville, Jan 6th, and ethnic cleansing.

    They've laid out exactly how they plan to destroy DEI.

    1. Make false claims that DEI is about giving unqualified Black people an unfair advantage

    2. Work with racist politicians to use this as a pretext to make all DEI programs illegal.

    Lip service to an idea is wholly different than real action for change. My institution has embraced "DEI" yet when it comes to actual change when hiring new colleagues - old institutional racism rears its head in so many subtle, discriminatory ways. Many "good people" want to be seen as good but dont want to give the power they accrued from biased systems.
