Good news that ScotGov is to declare a housing crisis. Communities are being squeezed by second homes, short term lets and unequal land ownership.

However it is bizarre that reserve powers will be blamed. So many competences in this area are devolved, eg equipping councils to ensure planning oversight of property usage, introducing a land value tax and so forth.

Such a paucity of imagination and ambition.

@simonvarwell We've been trying to buy a house for three years (JFC). No doubt in my mind that 100% of the problems we had for the first 18 months could have been solved by councils preventing second homes and AirB&Bs. Even since then it's been waiting for the market to settle a bit after the second-home covid boom, twinned with the fact that all the places we want to move (roughly the areas we're from) are outrageously expensive owing to....you guessed it, second homes and holiday lets!

Very telling that the "threats" to the UK according to Sunak are leftists, environmentalists, pacifists, migrants, peaceful protesters, democrats, those who human rights and (specifically) Scottish nationalists.

Not the far right, climate change deniers, polluters, pro-genocide militarists, racists and xenophobes, authoritarians and anyone in favour of stripping you of human rights.

Having wrongly imprisoned Andrew Malkinson (and only releasing him after nearly two decades), for having the audacity to prove the justice system wrong, the state (and justice system) seems to be going out of its way to make his life difficult.

Read his account & you get the feeling that that state has a vindictive interest in punishing its victim(s) for bringing the justice system into ill-repute.

Reform is needed of this unjust 'compensation' system.

The show The Traitors is a perfect encapsulation of why democratic countries get stuck with awful politicians. It demonstrates how easily people are manipulated into voting against their own interests. How many people are driven by “vibes” which they refer to as their gut which mostly boils down to unconscious biases and siding with people who they want to be friends with rather than trying to figure out who is being deceptive. Australia season 2 is a particularly alarming example.
