So... dear People, I may be #Blocking the #Universeodon domain, again. (the Instance's Perspectives rub me wrong). Problem is, these three People are on that instance, and I will miss them: @DeerWhispers @dalfen @LadyDragonfly
Also, @georgetakei is there, too; which also really sucks in this sense (see my thoughts on the Japanese-American Internment).
I am not asking anyone to move for my Preferences. But, it would be Really Cool if a #Fork of #Mastodon or #Calckey had the ability to #Block a #Domain but add exceptions. If this exists, then I do not know about it. Anyone?
@nimbus5000@stevesplace yes, for the most part it’s: open windows with fans from 2000 to maybe 0800, then button-up till 2000; rinse and repeat during hot spells.
#PSA - important listen from #NPR about Veteran’s Benefits for our #Veteran LGBTQ Brothers, Sisters, and Friends. Veterans unjustly robbed of their benefits because of “Other Than Honorable” discharges for not being Straight, can get their benefits restored. Help is out there! Please give a listen, and help get the word out!
Maybe Peak Parenting is finally coming to understand (and appreciate) that dedicated Beer Fridge found in the garages of my uncles and grandfather? #PeakParenting#Understanding#Parenthood#Parenting
Virtuous appliance cycle: the heat pump water heater is next to the freezer. In summer, the heat pump water heater significantly drops the air temperature in the garage, which reduces the energy used by the freezer to stay cool. In winter, the freezer heats up the air in the garage, to help supply heat to the heat pump water heater. #heatpump#energy
Reminder, supporting a third party candidate for the upcoming (and quite possibly last) U.S. presidential elections will earn you an instant block. You don’t have to like Biden, but fuck you and the Russian horse you rode in on if you don’t see what’s going on, here. #Biden#USPolitics
It’s noon, here. Sunny, 72F/22C, slight breeze, not a single cloud. There’s also not a single Honey Bee on the Sage, the Lavender, the Lemon Balm, the Poppies, the Bindweed, the Dandelions, the Blackberries, the Squash, the Melons, the Mallows, the Thistle, etc.
I am fucking sad. #Ecocide#Bees#Gardening#Food#ClimateDiary#Climate#PNW#Oregon#NoCWForTheClimate
Do plants have a Plan B? Or, are plants going to be able to adapt fast enough to get pollinated by anything other than Honey Bees, if that is currently their primary pollination vector? Has anyone talked to the plants about this, yet? Anyone…?
Wait, maybe they don’t even know, yet!?!?
(And, please don’t ping me with something akin to, “Technology will fix it!”). #Bees#Ecocide#NoCWForTheCollapse
Today’s observation, no bees on the Borage (just now starting to bloom, but it’s a classic bee plant), no one on the Bee Balm, the European Elderberry is also not getting attention. I’m going to hand pollinate the Squash and Pike Melons (thank you, Carol Deppe for teaching me this) to try to salvage the season. Hopefully the bees will return for the Photinia. And, maybe we’re just having an off-year. I see @ai6yr is getting plenty of bees down there.
[...] "Honeybees are crucial to the food supply, pollinating more than 100 of the crops we eat, including nuts, vegetables, berries, citruses and melons. Scientists said a combination of parasites, pesticides, starvation and effects of the climate crisis keep causing large die-offs." | #environment#ClimateChange#agriculture#food#FoodSecurity#UnitedStates#bees
@undergrowthfeed wife and I were in the garden, today, taking notice of the almost complete lack of honey bees, here. We’ve never, in over ten years at this spot, had a garden season with so few bees (native bees, too ). They were here for the Willow blooms early in the year, then disappeared. We have super-pollinator-friendly gardens, and never use any x-cides. It’s really concerning. #Bees#Pollinators#Gardening
Any suggestions for what to do with a glut of lemonbalm? I usually give it a haircut about this time of year and it seems such a waste to put it all in the compost
@petrichor@gardening I’ve got about a few square meters of Lemon Balm scattered all over the place. It’s just now starting to bloom, so best to leave it for pollinators. Once done blooming, I sometimes cut it back and let it mulch, or toss it in the coop or rabbit hutch. #LemonBalm
@melsaywhat Bitwarden FTW; been with it a while, can only highly recommend. It’s Open Source and multi-platform.
Also, regardless of what you use, having an additional word known only to you and not saved anywhere which you add to the front or end of each saved password after it’s pasted will further help in case your password data is ever compromised. And, using MFA, where available. Authy is my favorite MFA token generator. #PasswordManagers#MFA#Cybersecurity#Bitwarden
I have so much locally grown quinoa in my pantry and IT IS TIME TO USE IT. I also have many other grains, many locally grown in the Willamette Valley (Einkorn wheat! Farro! Emmer! Blah blah BLAH!), and about 30 kinds of beans and lentils. Would like to deplete much of the pantry this summer for restocking from my local "Fill Your Pantry" farmers' event this fall. SO, mastodon buddies, if you have recommended #beans or #pulses and/or #grains#recipes, lay 'em on me!
Punko’s #Haikoot Thread.
Experiment: Going to post and collect my #Haikoots here, in a thread that I will build upon by responding to this initial post.
I will be reaching back into my collection and reposting #Haiku I am fond of that were flushed with the #TooterRooter as well as new material.
