Managed to get out early to the Commercial Fishermen's Coop and get the seafood for tomorrow's lunch with Aunty. Now i just have to pick up my order at the butcher and the fruit and veg shop. Will do after my walk later.

@jpm it's a boiled fruitcake so only while it cools after the boiling part (that's the way grandma made it). It still soaks it up nicely though.

Managed to squeeze in a ver quick swim at the restored Newcastle Ocean Baths this morning while mum's care worker was here.

This lovely flowering shrub grows around the little creek in the park, part of a native revegetation of the area. Have been trying to figure out what it was but think this pic finally worked with the plant id app. Bursaria spinosa.

Worm farm arrived in the mail today. With worms which are alive - so far. Hope i set it up right and positioned it correctly. First time trying out a worm farm. Fingers crossed.

@melissabeartrix ha! Will have to go round asking the plants which ones want a wee dram.

Have to think about naming the worms.

Have just tucked them in for the night (decided an old flannelette sheet would help protect them from the sun and have damped it down to help keep them cool).

There were a lot more white ibis (aka bin chickens) in the park this morning. And one of the magpies was unhappy enough to give one a kick up the arse.

Reflections on a cloudy day.

Video of tree and sky reflections in the narrow little creek. Cloudy skies and well defined leaves and branches are reflected in almost completely still water. Further up, fallen leaves and other detritus have held up the flow so that it spills over the debris faster after that. Sounds are wind, bird and insect noises plus a distant voice sounding nasally Australian.

Decided to call up Santa while i was walking in the park. It's free on the local pay-phones. Needed a bit of cheering up today and it did give me a bit of a giggle.

For info, Santa apparently he doesn't want any brandy left out for him to drink, just milk.

I asked Santa for world peace and he seemed pretty open to that. So here's hoping he can fit that on the sleigh.

The roses were affected by yesterday's high temps. Colours concentrated vividly around the edges where the petals dried out.

Short walk in the park because it's barely mid-morning and already mid 30Cs. Looks like someone's all set up to have their wedding in the historic band rotunda. Not convinced the guests' white umbrellas are going to cut the heat. All looks beautifully set up though.
