I... don't WANT to dislike dansup, but every post of his feels like it's assembled by cutting words out of a magazine and pasting them on a computer screen.

I know some people are simply awkward in text. It took years to convince my boss to stop texting in caps, for example.

But it does make me curious if I'm the only one that thinks so. People seem to fave and boost these awkward posts pretty freely.

    Q of verbal-only jury instructions: Roger Parloff shared 1 school of thought he heard from judge he clerked for, that if you give jury a copy of instructions, they may home in on one phrase out of context & give it too much weight..sort of a missing the forest for the trees idea. That's just 1 theory, & various judges differ on the practice.

    & of course, it's still possible that #Trump objected to it at some point behind closed doors, not in public court #TrumpTrial

    Using Python 3.11 or higher, I want to create an output file and add a line describing it to a log file as an atomic operation: either the output file is created and the log entry is added, or neither happens. fcntl.flock() is only advisory - will something else give me stronger guarantees, preferably on all three major OSes? -lock -operation

    Just for fun. I added together all of the images I took of Comet Pons Brooks a few weeks ago. The session was just after astronomical twilight and every single frame I took (68) had at least one satellite trail. To really piss me off, a whole train of freshly launched Starlink satellites joined the "party". This, friends, is the price we pay for "progress".

    Here’s an excellent article about important lawsuits just filed on behalf of Uvalde families who lost loved ones to a mass shooting there. The families, represented by the same attorney who represented the Sandy Hook families, are suing Daniel Defense, the maker of the AR-15 used by the shooter, as well as the publisher of Call of Duty video games and Meta.     There is a biological process called the HPA axis, which controls the body's craving for and response to glucose. H for hypothalmus, P is pituitary, and A is adrenal.

    Through no fault of their own, people afflicted with a malfunctioning HPA axis will stay obese. Weight is not a matter of will power - diet and exercise alone will not control the hormonal disregulation responsible.
