Oh, joy, and now something inside Meta is crawling me. This makes me think that tthe overlords are watching YCombinator and crawling everything that gets on the front page. Meta User-Agent: "facebookexternalhit/1.1 (+http://www.facebook.com/externalhit_uatext.php)"

@timbray Some of those may be from links to your site and a site preview image being generated. I've seen them in my logs too, but they are generally for links to my site on Fb I'm already aware of.

Stealing many photographer's works, then posting the stolen images with zero credits & then doing zero AltText atop - you're a fucking shithead who should go back to META or X because that's where shit like that flies with zero pushbacks.

I am not nice to fucking shitheads.

@msquebanh It is even more "fun" when it is a commercial entity using my work without a license etc. I treat it like shoplifting and take it seriously - often much to their surprise.

One of many that breed more prolifically than our native ones. I was talking to 2 Indigenous friends & 1 Chinese friend today, on group conference chat. We were talking about harvesting invasive snails & eating them instead of just removing/killing & composting. We discussed harvesting & eating invasive species, like snails & American bullfrog. Harvesting & eating invasives helps to remove them from our ecosystems & aids local food security.

michaelrussell,
@michaelrussell@mas.to avatar

@CStamp American Bullfrogs are native in Ontario I believe so they aren't causing the sort of ecological issues we have here, or at least not for the same reasons. @msquebanh

michaelrussell,
@michaelrussell@mas.to avatar

@msquebanh Any ideas on how the snails got here? As with invasive plants I'd imagine a lot gets moved around via nursery stock and that kind of thing.

I'm all for eating invasive species providing those doing the harvesting can accurately identify and target them. @CStamp

Back in our gardens.

#SoapBush - #Ceanothus - Great for #PollinatorGarden.

It's proven to be #DroughtResistant, once established. One of very few #plants proven to be resistant to air pollution too. I highly recommend this for #ClimateAction #gardening. It's a gorgeous plant too.

@msquebanh Much bigger than my apples here in the Fraser Valley at this point. Do you have any issues with Apple Maggots there? I have to bag each apple in a nylon stocking when I thin them. The ones I miss are completely riddled with worm holes/trails by harvest time.

@msquebanh Which reminds me I need to do my own sweep for tent caterpillars soon. Have 3 trees - a 40 year old Granny Smith, and a Priscilla and Yellow Transparent that are a bit younger. The last two are smaller but the GS usually yields about two full bushels. Makes all the individual bagging worth it!

@msquebanh Been a minute since I've been up there but I believe it is a base for an informative sign that they remove after the park office up there closes at the end of September or thereabouts.

For #MountainMonday: A spring rainstorm flows from the clouds to the mountains in British Columbia, Canada. Eagle Mountain and the Buntzen Lake area appear to be receiving the brunt of the rainfall while the sun breaks through the clouds to the west.

More proof that $s don't mean sense. If you were going to allow a stranger to test drive your car, would you not want to see a driver's license first? And while some kids look older than their age, a 13-yr-old would still look young enough to worry about a teenager behind the wheel.

"...the teen's parents had "no feedback" to share with media." LOL.

"...a total write-off by the insurance company" at least means it's insured.

michaelrussell,

@CStamp I could be completely wrong about this but considering the city involved I wouldn't be surprised if the story given to explain this was concocted to protect the kid from the worse consequences of taking the car without permission.

michaelrussell,
@michaelrussell@mas.to avatar

@CStamp I'd heard it was an uncle but who knows. If you can buy a car like that, perhaps the loss of it isn't a big deal.

(No, I don’t think we are all going to die in the eclipse. So dumb. There will be an 18% eclipse where I live. It’ll get dimmer. Yay. Whatever.)

michaelrussell,
@michaelrussell@mas.to avatar

@snarkysteff The 90% was quite interesting in 2017? I was lucky enough to see that here. I always just assume clouds will block something like this. :)

Learned a new trick that's apparently an ancient Mexican trick for cooking tamales:

Put river rocks in the steaming water.

This way, as your tamales (or whatever) steams, the clattering of the rocks tells you there's still enough water for the job.

When the rocks stop rattling, you've run out of water and things will burn soon.

I know I'll be throwing some rocks in the dishwasher for this little hack!

michaelrussell,
@michaelrussell@mas.to avatar

@snarkysteff Question - does a consumer dishwasher get hot enough to sterilize rocks? Not a question I've pondered before! 😆

Hello - #bird experts. What is up with this #junco - it's very obsessed with my backyard #mirror. It's been hitting up this mirror - from early morning & it's still trying to do - I don't know what?

@msquebanh @CStamp For me it was the Towhees and Robins doing this. I didn't see any with exhaustion but there was certainly a lot of poop all over the mirrors and the side of the car. I had shopping bags on them when I parked at home for a few years but the newer generations seem to be able to ignore them now.

For #MountainMonday - The moon rises over Mount Blanshard from Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, Canada.

I wasn't planning this, but apparently others were (back in 2008) as I recall photographers in small groups along the side of the road waiting for the moon to rise. I had no idea what that might be about until it came up over the mountain.
