Yay - work brought me to a place one might see something interesting on eclipse day. Then the weather got clear enough. Then the work thing had a large enough gap to do the seeing.

So I didn’t plan for it but I had a camera and a decently long lens and an unanticipated opportunity and got a couple of half decent shots I will keep a long time.

So when you visit the shore and there’s a big storm and the waves are crashing up onto the road, don’t stand there.

It’s not “just water.” There are rocks and logs in those waves.

The water is currently 50 feet back and below from where I stood for this photo, and that’s a size 9 boot. That log was tossed there by the waves.

Respect the ocean.

You can see how wide the road and path are — logs like that were tossed to the far side of the 2-lane road too.

The log I photographed by my foot is to the right of the blue water fountain. It was thrown ashore during high tide with 100 wind and when the seas were 3 meters/10 feet higher. But still — that was a furious sea.

@snarkysteff oh man - I was down at Dallas this morning and there was driftwood all the way across the road an even a little on the grass past the sidewalk.

The road was closed for reasons.

Stormy day is stormy.

Parts of Dallas Rd are closed as the waves have flooded the street and brought chunks of driftwood up and over the sea wall and deposited is all over the street and even over some of the fences and lawns across the street.

I don't know about some of the people who chased the waves up and down the seawall like kids running through a sprinkler in August.

It takes all kinds I guess.

It’s been unseasonably warm, not complaining.

Catching some of the limited sunshine we found some blooming California Laurel, Marigolds, and the (more expected) Ilvery Thread Moss.

Had a good walk in the woods and, not totally surprisingly given the local temperate rain forest, collected the #Mosstodon / #LichenSubscribe / #Mushtodon trifecta. Oh also a whimsical little “elf door”, some bright orange slimemold, and a decent reflection in marsh.

@Jackthelad @luckytran Vaccines which help minimize acute symptoms. We have no treatment for king COVID. We have no treatment for the organ damage due to repeated bits of this vascular disease. We have no way to handle the coming public health crisis when entire communities now have a pre-existing condition[s].

So glad we are apparently tired of COVID and can afford to ignore it and otherwise fail to take precautions and/or observe reality.

Oh. No. Wait -the other thing. Not glad ; livid.

So, here's a problem I have with Mastodon: let's say I make a post and someone replies with a racist, sexist, homophobic or transphobic comment. I can block the commenter, but that only hides it for me. Other people who come to my page will see the comment, and believe that I tacitly condone that behaviour. I'd like to be able to delete the reply from my replies list entirely. Or at least hide replies from blocked accounts. And, yes, I know that wouldn't delete it from the originating server.

@nyquildotorg @evan I remember that. I can’t say I entirely disagree but having thought about it a lot since I believe that I do want an option to “orphan” someone’s comment, reply, mention.

It shouldn’t be on an individual to engage with a troll and/or bad-actor just to avoid implicitly condoning terrible material tacked onto something else.

it would be exceedingly nice to cut loose some jerkwads response and have nothing to do with it. I can’t delete their reply, I don’t want to delete what I’ve said, I just want to have nothing to do with someone else’s awful replay.

Distancing oneself should not require active engagement (aka a new reply decrying the awful one) just to avoid implicitly condoning the crap comment.

A very dark day. Took a walk though and looked at lots and lots of moss.

These are all cropped from 80mp 'sensor shift' (20mp sensor) raws taken with my #OMSystems #OM5 using the #Olympus 60mm f2.8 #Macro.

These were all taken at f16 with very slow shutter speed (about 1/5 give-or-take) so moss was about the only thing I could take handheld shots of.

Not amazing but a fun experiment.
