first day of break and we ordered in a big lunch from a cypriot restaurant. and it was super cheap cause of a deal to try a random restaurant on the service we hadn't tried before

fries arrived soggy but nothing a quick zap in the airfryer couldn't fix and i got half a chicken that was seasoned nicely and fall off the bone tender. nothing amazing but it was nice to have a meal that i didn't have to cook myself first

I get what pressures prevent it, but just because it can be explained doesn't make me believe it's fine the way it is.

justafrog,
@justafrog@mstdn.social avatar

@Infrogmation @noladon It's a completely different philosophy, right?

Most modern shops are very cautious to avoid making permanent changes to what are usually rented premises.

So often it's a chain of some sort, so they have to follow the chain style, too.

It's so dull and impersonal.

@peterdutoit What bothers me the most about this graph is the time between breaking 0.5C and 1.0C, compared to the time between breaking 1.0C and 1.5C.

How will that compare to the time between breaking 1.5C and 2.0C?

That's going to be even shorter, right? Unless a massive drop in emissions happens real soon.

@msquebanh What's most frustrating to me is that environmentalists in Europe were adamant that permitting "biomass" as a renewable would cause precisely this.

Clearcutting nature to generate the biomass, replacing it with either nothing at all or tree plantations.

And now it's simply happening as predicted.

This is something I am deeply worried about too; throughout #Gaza but again this morning, with Israel’s horrendous bombing of a refugee camp just days after ICC put out a warrant against Netanyahu, and again, so far, NOTHING from Biden and co:

that the liberal world order so obviously means nothing, is a sham; that “Might is Right” - always but now so completely clearly so. As Nesrine Malik says, this will have wider repercussions.

Great fun, & drumming in our first races! We did pretty good, considering we've had only 7 practices. We beat a more experienced team that has trained twice/week for a few years in our last race with time of 1:08 minutes!

I'm exhausted & bit sore. Putting ice packs on & then having a long hot bath 🛀

Me & two fellow paddlers. Two women, one on each side of me.

@CelloMomOnCars I definitely didn't expect insurers to apply so much pressure for climate action, but it's nice to see a powerful player start to act.

Refusal to insure in the current system is as good as canceling funding.

The more they do it, the better.

justafrog,
@justafrog@mstdn.social avatar

@CelloMomOnCars From the insurer's standpoint, it still makes sense to insure that.

Starting to think only repeated direct action will have significant impact on the mining side of things.

justafrog,
@justafrog@mstdn.social avatar

@CelloMomOnCars Something like "insuring A makes insuring B impossible" might work, if B made them more profit.

Considering they're only withdrawing from very specific things, that might simply not be the case.

If only people were willing to look beyond the quarterlies and realize we actually need a livable world.
