Non-toxic #Jesus follower, musician, #dnd enjoyer, lover of kittehs, former #Haiku dev, replacing e-mail, Outlook, and Exchange, and dayjob in IT. Lots of #programming, mostly #Kotlin and #Rust.
I've been dinking around with #vim a bit lately. Looked some of the help info and I have a serious question: why are some of the keyboard shortcuts so arbitrary?
Ctrl+] to follow a link but Ctrl-T to go back? I can't see the logic. Is there any to this?
I have been for 3 years, trying every single internet tip and trick. Buying cleaning products etc…
Yesterday I finally bit the bullet and emailed our maintenance staff to say that: “I need a new whiteboard, I've essentially tried everything and now there's just no white space left".
About an hour later, someone turned up and with kindness slowly removed the protective film I’ve been writing on for 3 years…
@vinceknight You'd be surprised how many times I've pulled the shipping plastic off a 5+ year old Dell PC or some flatscreen monitor. People miss that kind of stuff all the time.
Enjoyed a Grilled Kielbasa #breakfast with Arianna Paterson , Ellen Jett, and some of their #classmates.
I am of the same year, just a different country and continent.
Wonderful time together. https://www.winchellsrestaurant.com/
Today marks 5 whole years that I've been working hard to replace the dumpster fire that is e-mail. Hit the link to find out where we've been, where we are, and where we're going!
Do not stand at your bowl and meow.
I gave you food. It's in there now.
I feed you at the dawning light,
I feed you at the fall of night.
I feed you kibbles mixed with meat
And wet food for a special treat.
I feed you even though you scoff
At all the food within your trough.
I feed you and still yet you yell
Like as a beast from deepest hell.
Do not stand at your bowl and cry.
I gave you food. You will not die.
Took this week off from work for a staycation, so what am I doing? Working on #Mensago. All morning, every morning, and playing househusband at the same time.
I feel happier, less stressed, and more fulfilled than I have in a long, long time, and it gives me a taste of what my life could be like working on it full-time.
Today I learned that apparently #JetBrains is OK with using pre-release quality software in production.
How do I know? Look into Dokka, their documentation engine. The main format is in beta. They also talk up Markdown and Javadoc, but guess what? Those are in alpha and they even say 'use at your own risk'.
Maybe it's just me, but if something isn't production-ready, it shouldn't be mentioned in your tutorials.
Just finished the indie game Gravity Circuit. It feels like the #MegaMan series in a fresh way, unlike the obvious (and uninspired) rehash that MM11 was. It's short, but it is so good.
The #AI hype bubble is just like the #blockchain hype from a few years ago.
One problem I'm seeing is that people have gotten so excited about the possibilities that they've ignored one of its major drawbacks: unpredictability, and it's a drawback that can't be trained out, especially when the thing is so complex that no one person can ever possibly understand how it works.
"The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians who acknowledge Jesus with their lips and then walk out the door and deny him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable." -- Brennan Manning
@royal@SolusSpider@CharismaticBatman The old-school rap they did seems about on-par with other Christian music of the day and found quite a following in the A/G youth group I was in, right up there with Carman.
Looking back, it's kinda cringe TBH. Christian music in non-pop genres (rap, rock, etc.) has come a long way since then
A bottle of water can be $1 at the grocery store, $3 at a restaurant, $4 at the movies, and $6 at an airport. The only thing that changed its value is the place, so the next time you feel like you have no value, maybe you're in the wrong place.
@stux Pretty simple to know why they stopped making motors like that: not enough churn. No way to make tons of money when the things wear out after only a few years.
I just finished writing a code test which creates and queues for delivery an end-to-end encrypted email-like message in somewhere around 10-15 lines of #Kotlin code.
Think about it. It's starting getting real. SQUEEEE!!!
