I've used TeamViewer for years because for family remote support, it fits perfectly... until today when TV said I was using it commercially.

Fine. Go kick rocks, guys. Your offering has been less and less compelling of late. is better and easier to set up.

@jonyoder I've been using Anydesk and they keep bugging me about whether I'm using it for commercial use or not. I'm not, I tell them I'm not and they keep asking. I'm about done being annoyed.

@Big_Diggity You may want to give RustDesk a go then. I tried AnyDesk a couple years ago for work and didn't have a great experience in terms of bugs.

It's super lightweight, FLOSS, you can self-host, and so far the only down side I've seen is that Wayland support is experimental.

@jonyoder I saw that you mentioned it in your post and already installed it on my phone. I'll install it on a few devices and will likely make the jump. 😉

If RustDesk doesn't work for you, take a look at DWService. It isn't as robust, but its very, very lightweight and just uses a web interface to view.

@RL_Dane @jonyoder Cool! I'll check them both. Does DWService allow you to have unattended log in?

Not sure -- not sure I know what that is

@RL_Dane @jonyoder If I have a workstation at home, can I log into it with a password if I'm not home and access the desktop?

@Big_Diggity @jonyoder

Ah. I honestly don't know. Haven't tried it.

It would have to run as a system service for that to work, no? In that case, no.

@Big_Diggity @jonyoder

Wait, do you mean if the account isn't already logged in? Sorry I'm not totally following the scenario :blobfoxblush:

@RL_Dane @jonyoder Here's a scenario. With Anydesk, my dad has it installed. He asks me to fix a bug on his machine. I can't do it right away. He goes off and moves on with life. I go to log into his machine a few hours later using the Anydesk credentials while he's out- and- about to fix the bug.
Unattended Access.

Ah, so it opens the session without presenting you with an unlock screen.

I think that does work, but you'd want to test it on a local box to be sure.

But probably test out rustdesj first, especially if you want to use it on mobile.
