    The Redis thing underscores a key point: open source is not enough. We need community built software -- free and open source licenses are just one aspect of that.

    If a company requires you to assign copyright (or equivalent re-licensing rights) in an asymmetrical way, they will inevitably eventually decide to take that option once they want to cash in on the goodwill you've built for them (let alone the code).

    @vwbusguy @mattdm I pushed back against the CentOS/RHEL source stuff being a good example for other to emulate.

    I wouldn't argue that what they did is similar to the other "business license" examples you mentioned, because it's not. RH didn't change any licenses.

    No one did anything legally "wrong," and what the others did is worse than what RH did, but, IMO, they all acted in bad faith w.r.t. the FLOSS community.

    @0x00string For me they did want to sneak a peak after the chat. The urologist wanted to check that he could palpitate the vas deferens and otherwise see if there seemed to be anything that would complicate the surgery.

    Curious to see if Fedi can help.

    A professor I was close with, James Vick, passed about a month ago. He wrote an algebraic topology textbook and it was translated into Russian by ะะปะตะบัะตะน ะงะตั€ะฝะฐะฒัะบะธะน (who also passed about a month ago).

    I have fond memories flipping through that translation in his office and it would be really nice to have a copy.

    I'm having a difficult time finding one that I can actually order, though.
