i'm really excited to show https://compost.party to the world! it's a web server running on an old, broken phone, getting energy from the sun using one of those portable solar chargers that you may also have lying around.

it's a real oddity and a real beauty

The only feeling I have about starship is dread.

They want to use that to launch batches of HUNDREDS of Starlinks at once. And guess where all those Starlinks will end up? The pieces that don't make it to the ground will end up in our upper atmosphere, screwing up the stratosphere, the ozone layer, who knows what else because SpaceX isn't required to do any environmental assessments of this.

Shit. Maybe a good time to post this essay I wrote yet again: https://theconversation.com/an-astronomers-lament-satellite-megaconstellations-are-ruining-space-exploration-215653

  1. Washington Post CEO came from the Murdoch empire.

  2. He has been implicated in the (still not fully unraveled) UK "phone hacking" scandal that exemplified the sleaziness of the Murdoch empire.

  3. He told Post editor not to publish a story containing references to his alleged involvement.

  4. She published the story.

  5. She's gone.

99.7% of Venture Capital money goes to people that are not Black women.

0.3% of Venture Capital goes to Black women.

The 11th circuit court cited civil rights law when it said that it is racist to stop anyone from having access to VC based on their race, and that setting aside VC for people of a given race is racist.

So they ruled against a group of Black women looking to give their own money to Black founders. For violating the civil rights. Of white men that want that 0.3% too.🙂🙃

"Jewish US Army Major Explains Why He Resigned Over Gaza"

"I knew that as long as I stayed, I'd be contributing to this campaign [of] indiscriminately killing civilians at an industrial scale.

"We saw, even from the first days of the Israeli air campaign, willingness to inflict very high civilian casualties."

I'd like to push to install these ground anchors in any repaved or new parking spaces, and make those parking spaces usable by bikes. Why not? You're devoting public space to vehicle storage, make it work for our vehicles, too. Cars can roll right over them if they're not in use. Put 3-5 of them in each space and you make far more efficient use of the space, too.

I’ve not been paying much attention but Jensen Huang is unironically referred to as “daddy” in Taiwan now and I’m not even joking. (apparently it has to do with him acknowledging his Taiwanese roots at a time when Taiwanese celebs are seen as selling out to China)

Hey friends, as many of you know, I’m among the 50 workers who were unfairly retaliated against by Google for taking part in sit-ins and protests to demand they cut ties with Israel’s genocide in Gaza as well as stop the internal retaliation, harassment and racism against Palestinian, Muslim, and Arab Googlers.

I’m now helping raise money for urgent living needs and our collective legal fees. Personally I have a stable living situation and no dependents, but many of my colleagues have expensive medical bills and family members to take care of. Also lawyers are expensive.

Please consider donating to support our legal battle, as the outcome of this case will set a precedent for all worker’s rights in the US. We are primarily seeking support from fellow tech workers, who have the most direct stake in the outcome of this case, which we believe will set a precedent to protect tech worker organizers against retaliation in the future. Support us here: https://coworkerfund.org/support-workers/googlers-fund/
