Of these choices, I can currently walk to all of them from my apartment, aside from a university (no biggie, I'm not currently studying, although there is a Tafe within walking distance), a hospital, and a sports arena.

I know that #Biden isn't the perfect candidate & that it really is too bad that we so frequently have to choose between elderly white men for the job, but if people think for one second that #Trump would somehow be better (on any level) then either they are not paying attention or they're plainly gullible fools.

This is not unlike Stockholm Syndrome where a victim, because of their emotional attachment to their abuser(s), makes excuses to justify their abuse.

From the NYTimes this morning:
"Speaking to reporters, lawyers for the Colorado voters challenging Trump’s eligibility said they had been struck by the fact that, in their briefings, Trump’s lawyers had largely abandoned arguments about whether he “engaged in insurrection” in favor of arguments about the scope of the 14th Amendment."

What does this tell us?
That Trump and his team KNOWS he engaged in insurrection by any standard definition of the term, and are merely working a technicality.🤨

Justice #ClarenceThomas is participating in arguments on Thursday in the Colorado ballot case, despite a push by some lawmakers for his recusal.

His continued involvement has prompted outcries from critics who have pointed to his wife’s political activism, including her repeated efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election as a conflict of interest since that is the exact issue before the court. It has also renewed attention to the ethics questions surrounding the court.

Justice Gorsuch, who hasn’t spoken much this morning, asks about the source of a state’s authority to enforce election elibility. Notably, as a judge on the Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit in 2012, Gorsuch issued an order stating that “a state’s legitimate interest in protecting the integrity and practical functioning of the political process permits it to exclude from the ballot candidates who are constitutionally prohibited from assuming office.” 👍

The six voters who prevailed in the state case in Colorado urged the justices not to give in to what they suggested were threats of political violence from a candidate they said had demonstrated a propensity for it. “The thrust of Trump’s position is less legal than it is political. He not-so-subtly threatens ‘bedlam’ if he is not on the ballot. But we already saw the ‘bedlam’ Trump unleashed when he was on the ballot and lost.”

I kind of knew the U.S. wasn't really a civilised country but today, thanks to @mekkaokereke's posts (go follow him!), I learned that in America cops can literally take away any amount of money or other assets you carry and keep it--without ever bringing any charges against you.

And only an expensive and lengthy legal process can bring some of it back to you. I mean seriously??

Whatever other excuses people may try to insert about border issues United States, the real reason is #racism. The same people, usually conservative religious types, who are crying about low birth rates and trying to have as many kids as possible, are the same ones saying that our country is too crowded for (non-white) #immigrants. The fact is that #immigration is the only reason our population is growing, & they all pay taxes.

We should be welcoming & thankful, not hateful & ugly.
