I had to enroll in a new health plan this year. I work for myself, so I had to go on the open market. You have to give a phone number and email address to even get a quote. Numbers that are not in my contact list are automatically silenced. The call just flashes 'silenced call' on the screen and registers as a missed call.

So far today, I've had 302 missed calls, mostly from health insurance brokers. 302.

This is insane.

Due to the economic crisis in '07-10... a close by house went into foreclosure and the residents moved out - but did not take their cats with them - just dumped them outside.

So we went through ups/downs of feral cat population growing - to the point we captured as many as we could and had humane society neuter/spay them...

But our trend was labeling them after Ice Cream...:

  • several Orangesicles
  • Rocky Roads
  • Butterscotch

Etc.

I give it a good soapy scrub after each usage. Rinse, dry, wipe a small amount of new oil and heat.

Doesn't hurt a properly seasoned pan. Just don't go overboard.

Cooking on cast iron is great!

Turns out although we like Feta Cheese... we can't eat a quart of it, before it goes bad.

I found this out while making mac n' cheese - and pulled out bag of shredded cheddar, bag of 3 white cheeses, and grabbed the unopened Feta - to find that it is passed the use by date.

    We keep multi-years worth of tags on Luna's "necklace" (aka collar) - so she jingles.

    But she can still move in stealth mode - to surprise us.

    But she hasn't quite figured out our 100 year old house's stairs. Couple steps creak and she is just enough weight, that I can hear her coming.

    When I peak around the corner - she stops... like "you can't see me"...

    Back in the "oughts" - I had to call sheriff's a couple times while mowing the road edge.

    Uncovered liter containers taped shut with what appeared to be white powder.

    They called it a portable meth lab that must have got too hot so they tossed out window.

    Guy in town had one blow up while driving. Burned on chest, arms, and face. Jail for him.

    I don't touch any container on road edge. Lots of toilets. Stupid driver/passenger in cars.

    Over the last week or so - we went through cabinets checking expiration dates on variety of things.

    Food is the obvious thing to check...

    But do you know that many medicines have expiration dates,, too? Yep - they do... And many are not really long... like a year or less.

    At the rate I use things like Nyquil - I really need a small travel size container... those normal ones are a waste of ~3/4 of container. & $$.

    Pretty easy on the food stuff - as old doesn't taste right..

    The medicines - I generally never thought about those things as I don't use much and don't think to look at the dates.

    I now try to follow the rule that if I haven't used it in a year - it is likely not going to be used and likely bad.

    The small Remote Mowers and Vacuums are really missing out on an opportunity.

    Stop making those ugly circular things and put some design into them.

    Offer up replaceable covers - and then make them into a variety of shapes.

    Folks that can afford those units would buy them like collectibles: Hot Wheel cars, Barbie dolls, Marvel Characters, heck even the Transformer characters.

    And why are they majority/all sold in "black"... put some color into them.

    My order of preference:
    Waffles
    French Toast
    Pancakes (blueberry, but any...)

    In my younger significantly more exercisy days... On a camping/canoe group trip - folks I worked with made me French Toast over the 2.5 hour breakfast period... and they counted (I did not). They said I put away nearly a full loaf (>20 slices).

    No way I can do that now-a-days. One PB & J on toast fills me up now.
