I put an owl nest box up at my sister's house last winter and a pair of Western Screech-Owls moved right in this spring. She calls the female Enid and the male DoorDash since he brings her food all the time. #owls

I managed to squeeze in one more hike in the foothills before the weekend crowds descend. Many spring wildflowers and Lark Sparrows along the 6-mile loop kept me entertained.

A small bird sings from a perch atop a bush with no leaves. Its belly is light gray with a black spot in the middle. A black line extends down from its beak to its shoulder. There is a rusty patch and black line behind its eye and a rusty stripe on its head. The wing is scalloped with black and soft brown colors.

  1. The water is high enough at Lake Owyhee that the ring gate spillway, affectionately called a "Glory Hole" and rarely put to use, is overflowing with water. An oddly cool thing to see. #Oregon

A video shows a slightly submerged concrete ring spouting vapor like a whale as water above a dam flows into its deep vertical tube.

Happy ! My favorite experience appreciating bats was at the Frio Bat Flight in Texas a few years ago. The evening departure of over 10 million Mexican free-tailed bats from their cave takes hours. Appreciative raptors hunt the bats before dark, grabbing them right out of the sky and eating them without landing.

@Eka_FOOF_A @GottaLaff I don't think that cutting down trees will discourage gulls, starlings, doves and blackbirds from concentrated feeding operations or small feedlots.
