    Hawk In A Close Fly By by Debra Martz I watched this Red-shouldered Hawk from the edge of the road, taking a few photos as it searched the ground for prey. It then turned and looked directly into my eyes momentarily, then flew by extremely close as it moved to the opposite side of the road...I got back in the truck, left it to its hunting, and continued to Goose Island State Park in southern Texas for some more bird watching.

    @thepoliticalcat That’s part of the circle though can be hard to witness. Mainly red tails in my area especially high numbers in fall and winter. Spring through summer I enjoy watching the Mississippi Kites of which we have many to watch while sitting outside. It’s also interesting to watch in fall as they group in Kettles in the sky as they start their migration south.

    Enhanced In Flight Great Blue Heron by Debra Martz Back in May when asked what I would like to do for Mother's Day....well, how about some bird watching! And so we did just that in Port Aransas, TX. This Great Blue Heron gave me a great photo opportunity when it flew by rather close to the observation deck at Leonabelle.

    Golden-Mantled Ground Squirrel by Debra Martz A small squirrel like a chipmunk, with grayish-brown fur & 2 white stripes edged with black. I first saw one of these at Bryce Canyon, I thought it was a Chipmunk. When I started trying ID the variety, I discovered it was a squirrel. 4 years later I see another one, this time in New Mexico but I knew it was not a Chipmunk this time.
