A few summers ago I was walking through a meadow in Dog Canyon, Texas when I spotted this tiny, colorful wildflower blooming in the tall grasses. I thought it was beautiful in its simplicity.
Roman Nose State Park Entrance by Debra Martz
This state park, located in northern Oklahoma, is named after a Cheyenne Chief "Henry Roman Nose - 1856~1917 who originally owned this 600-acre tract which comprised his allotment. It was preserved by the state as a park to honor him in 1937.
BLOOPER Alert. Was out on an adventure looking for wildlife in Florida and there it was. A perfect Canadian Goose gracefully drinking water. I snuck up on it & started taking pics, like 10 of them. Then I got to thinking, he sure is drinking a lot of water. Yeah, it's fake. 👍😂
"Pied-billed Grebe Reflecting On the Water" by Debra Martz
I'm always happy to get a decent picture of these little diving grebes. It's always a guessing game to see where they might resurface. This one was a treat when it came up so close to me.
Yellow-rumped Warbler at Water Spout by Debra Martz While hiking a few trails at Goose Island State Park in south Texas, I crossed a paved road and noticed a few picnic tables...good time for a break. But the best part was when I neared those tables, I realized there was a watering station for birds and small wildlife. Shortly after sitting down, in flew this Yellow-rumped Warbler.
Here's another one, from a bit of a different angle. I used an old 50 mm lens on 39 mm of extension again, and stacked 15 frames, concentrating on the central part of the flower only. For scale, these flowers are about the size of a quarter.
@jstatepost Oh yes, came across as helpful. Taking pictures and trying to make notes of where I am at the time can be difficult, at least for me. It was my first day in the big city on a brief 3-day visit.
So glad you liked the image and happy to have provided you with a good memory!
@JVNardulli It was upper 60s here in OK yesterday morning but 97 high in the afternoon. We're headed for another heat wave in a few days with more 100+ days.
It was day 10 of our Spring cruise which was a day at sea. We were cruising on the Atlantic Ocean after leaving our last port in the Dominican Republic en route to Brooklyn, New York.
