This view was from our cruise ship as we made our way to the Pier in Brooklyn. One World Trade Center (aka One WTC or Freedom Tower) is the main building of the new World Trade Center complex in Lower Manhattan, New York City. The building is 1,776 feet tall and opened in late 2014. The height of the building was done on purpose to refer to the year the Declaration of Independence was signed.

@Princejvstin Thanks for the additional info. Yes, we were closing in on Red Hook Cruise Terminal in Brooklyn. First time there and I have been trying to figure out the buildings in the lower foreground, so thanks, I'll have a look at Governors Island. For this trip, I only carried my Nikkor 18-200mm lens. Just looked in Lightroom and I shot it at 112mm on a Nikon crop sensor camera. It's an HDR stack of three with shutter speed bracketing.

Manhattan Early Morning View ©Debra Martz We had a morning arrival while on a cruise back in April. The clouds were heavy so didn't get the bright morning light I would have liked but it was still a beautiful sight to see as we made our way toward the Red Hook Pier in Brooklyn.

Golden-Mantled Ground Squirrel by Debra Martz A small squirrel like a chipmunk, with grayish-brown fur & 2 white stripes edged with black. I first saw one of these at Bryce Canyon, I thought it was a Chipmunk. When I started trying ID the variety, I discovered it was a squirrel. 4 years later I see another one, this time in New Mexico but I knew it was not a Chipmunk this time.

NCL Norwegian Dawn NYC ©Debra Martz We weren't the only cruise ship arriving early in New York. We had just passed under the Verrazzano - Narrows Bridge seen in the background at 6 am, April 20th. I had not noticed another ship behind us until I took another look back about 10 minutes later and saw the NCL Dawn.

Back in April, while on vacation, I took a walk on the soft sand of this uncrowded beach near Puerto Plata on the northern coast of the Dominican Republic which is known as the Amber Coast due to the area’s large deposits of amber. I've added some soft overlays of textures for enhancement.

I came upon this interesting scene today: a ladybug had found an ant "aphid farm" and was about to deliver a whole world of pain. The ant fell down the plant while trying to block the ladybug.

(Some species of ants have a mutualistic relationship with aphids. They herd the aphids to collect honeydew, and protect them from predators.)

We always talk to locals to find out-of-the-way places! While staying a few nights in Guernsey, Wy to see the Cliff Register Wall, Oregon Trail, & Guernsey State Park, a local told us we needed to travel to Ft Laramie for the Nat'l Historic Site & to hit a back road leading to Hartville, Wy, where we would find the state's Oldest Bar. On the way, we found this rustic sign showing us the way

Returning from our history cruise on the Creole Queen Paddle-wheeler and readying to dock behind the Riverboat Louis Armstrong. This riverboat is more about being a venue for Concerts, Brunches, Seasonal Events, Meetings, and Weddings. Since it is a 'jazzy" boat, I jazzed up my image with multiple layers and filters in Topaz.

Just like Deja vu! On my previous visit, I arrived early morning at Leonabelle Birding Center in Port Aransas, Texas, and shortly after a beautiful Green Heron landed on the handrail of the boardwalk. And the same thing this early June morning. It stretched its neck and gave a softer call than the normally harsh Kuk Kuk Kuk so perhaps calling its mate.

I was photographing this flower at first from a lower vantage point and a different side when I noticed a long slim hair-like item moving. When I changed my vantage point, I saw that it was the antennae of this tiny little insect looking back at me!
