「 Microsoft is rewriting core Windows libraries in the Rust programming language, and the more memory-safe code is already reaching developers.

#Microsoft is such a nonsense company under Satya. What they are doing with #Edge on #Windows is really pushing me towards #LinuxMint. There are only a handful of apps like #ShareX that I use heavily on Windows and they do not have a good alternative on #Linux. But these are smaller issues if they can fix the larger problem with the Windows OS. Especially since I would be forced to upgrade to #Windows11, the day I get a new box.

I hope a #hail#storm doesn't come. It's currently raining in my area, and one of my #windows, the inside pane specifically, #cracked due to a settling #foundation; I just hope it doesn't shatter and bring the outside #weather with it.
I just did the #ClearType#Font tuning thing in #Windows where it asks you to "Choose the text that looks best to you" a few times. I think it looks much better now?
Do the people working at #Microsoft honestly think that crap like this is what #Windows users want?
The search that they should be focusing on is Windows search. Listary and voidtool's 'Everything' are INFINITELY better and I couldn't get anything done without them.
The ONLY positive thing here is that unlike other features they've auto-installed, this one actually asks you up front if you want to use it and avoids using dark patterns.
I have received the tiny Japanese netbook! Shipping was surprisingly fast, the netbook actually arrived before the replacement SSD (I'm going to dual boot Windows 10 LTSC and some flavor of Linux). Just running a quick driver backup first, since Nanote doesn't seem to make their drivers available for download.
Decided to take the plunge & purchase an HP laptop running Windows 11. Copied some old programs I had saved on my Mac to a thumb drive to install on the PC. And now I’m recalling why I detest Windows so much. It wiped the permissions on my thumb drive making it completely unusable on my Mac. I’m beyond frustrated. #macos#windows#frustration#regrets
Love #ProtonMail... hate their setup process on Windows. Needed sighted assistance because OCR completely butchered the password, and now that I have the password right Thunderbird throws an error at me saying that either it, my email, or the configuration are invalid even though it supposedly added an exception in Windows Firewall. sigh #Computer#Computing#Tech#Privacy#Security#Windows
Viele Computer erfüllen die Hardwarevoraussetzungen für ein Upgrade auf #Windows11 nicht. Wird im Herbst 2025 mit dem Ende des Supports von #Windows 10 deshalb eine Schrottlawine losbrechen?

I think Windows on my work computer has become self-aware - it kept asking me if I wanted to delete a folder I didn't tell it to delete (I may have hit it by accident, but then why would it ask me 26 times in a row?!)
Over the next few weeks, I'm going to TRY to accurately measure my power consumption doing daily work tasks on my big tower PC, the Steam Deck, and the HP Dev One laptop. (Using a Kill-A-Watt P3).
ALSO? Gaming power consumption comparisons between my desktop PC & the Xbox Series X, both at 4K resolution.
I expect it will be an eye-opening experience and I'll never turn on my tower again.
This will undoubtedly branch off into all kinds of software testing too. YES, I'll record & share data...
