#cinema#wesanderson#roalddahl#netflix
I've seen many pyrocumulus clouds, but I've never seen a lone cloud above a small fire like this, which I saw today. It made for a great photo, too. It looks like it should be in a Wes Anderson film.
Watched Grand Budapest Hotel. I had never seen any #WesAnderson movies but really enjoyed this one. I found the plot fairly passé and the characters not super complex, but the visuals were so beautiful that the vibe just justified everything else. All the camels were a bit overwhelming for me, but the story kept me focused enough to witness gorgeous shots over and over, so I was happy at the end.
Watched the #WesAnderson movie #AsteroidCity this evening. His movies are always a visual treat, and the scenes are crafted like a diorama. A rather hard-to-interpret plot, but very fun and engaging storytelling techniques.
This one will take some thinking and maybe another watch to sort it out though.
I drove three hours each way to Rhode Island to shoot moonlight #photography at the beach that served as 3.25 Mile Tidal Inlet for #WesAnderson in #MoonriseKingdom. This photo is, obviously, not a product of that trip. Heavy fog shut that project down. I did, however, find in my camera bag a chip with photos I never downloaded from my spring visit to Monument Valley in #Arizona. Carlos Phillips, of the #Navajo family business Phillips Photography Tours, provided pre-dawn access and expert knowledge of the landscape. #SilentSunday
Gotta say: This was the first #WesAnderson movie I didn't like.
Might be because it's his first anthology. Just...the connecting theme is really, really boring. Also: I don't mind reading subtitles, but at least keep them consistent and to a minimum.
Furthermore, he really overplays his hand in style, substance, and casting.
Have fewer people and stick to better characters, damn it! #movies
The human characters could start out obviously different than the androids’ #GerryAnderson#Supermarionation-style #puppets, and over the course of the film each side’s appearances would converge and become indistinguishable.
Got a chance to watch #WesAnderson's latest, Asteroid City. He's one of those #directors (along with either/both of the #Cohen brothers) that I will watch anything he creates, without knowing anything about it.
He's got a distinctive #visual#style that gives him away, but #AsteroidCity reinforces my hypothesis that the thing that truly is his signature is that every single character in his #movies is #insane, and none of them know it, about themselves or each other.
