The Unity pricing debacle has taken an unfortunate, dangerous turn. In a new report from Bloomberg, the company has reportedly canceled a town hall meeting due to what the publication called credible death threats. According to Bloomberg, Unity CEO John Riccitiello was set to address employees Thursday morning, but the...
So, the betrayal with Unity is canceled... I can congratulate all the panickers and those who have already started studying other engines. Compromise seems to be the norm, and the logo made with unity can be off even with free use of the license.
Capitalization in C# / Unity is an infuriating minefield.
Microsoft and Unity offer slightly different standards and then don't consistently follow them.
There is no entry for "capitalization" in the index for the 1000-page C# 10 in a Nutshell. There is some advice under "identifiers", but it differs from what is given by the previous two sources.
Many sources want to capitalize private and public fields differently. Why would you do that?!
Unity adds spaces and changes the capitalization when displaying class and field names.
If you refactor a name, Unity bloats your code with a FormerlySerializedAs attribute.
Unity has apologized for the "confusion and angst the runtime fee policy" it announced last week has caused and has revealed it will be "making changes" to it.
#Israeli PM #BenjaminNetanyahu & #BennyGantz, leader of the opposition #NationalUnity party, reached an agreement Wed to form a unity govt. The 2 ldrs said the new govt would pursue only bills or decisions concerning the #conflict, which has prompted Israel to mass troops near the Gaza Strip & call up #reservists ahead of an offensive against #Hamas militants.
GameDev problem: the music in our WebGL game on itch.io won't start until the user clicks in the window. Unity claims this is a browser limitation (no autoplay):
... but the user has already clicked to load and launch the game, so it seems there should be no reason to require another click. I know I've seen WebGL games on itch that don't have this problem.
"#Unity isn't a game engine. It's a advertising and malware network that merged with a popular game engine as a delivery channel and now wears its corpse as its skin"
Okay since this worked really well last time, I have another request for advice. I currently focus on #Unity and try to get as good as it in as many areas as possible in the time I have. The reason for that is that I got a job where I could learn it and get paid for it. Now when looking at job offerings I find larger companies seem to prefer #Unreal. Do I assume correctly that I need to chose one and will then kinda be stuck with it? I don't have time to learn two engines. #gamedev#jobs
I have learned two things from the recent #Unity scandal.
Publicly traded companies know no limits for greed, bumbling, and sheer dumb-fuckery in the pursuit of appealing to investors who are not invested in either the company's products or their customers.
A surprising number of game developers do not know how to calculate basic percentages.
#Unity is gonna add a pricing tier for developers making them pay per download for their games :nkoFacepalm2:
This feels like the Reddit API fiasco all over again
Am I happy I chose Unreal Engine over Unity a while ago.. They have also a pricing tier but one that makes sense at least. Only from a certain downloads you're gonna pay just a few % to Epic
