Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office reported that 75 Ukrainian children have been tortured by the Russians since the beginning of the full-scale war, most of them in the village of Yahidne in Chernihiv Oblast.
Ron De Santis oversaw #torture at Guantánamo Bay when he was in the Navy, and not one major media outlet has covered it. While De Santis's military records were often redacted "to protect personal privacy," Mansoor Adayfi, who was wrongfully held at Guantánamo, without charge, for 14 YEARS, said in 2023, that DeSantis oversaw force-feedings and beatings of detainees both publicly and in his book, Don't Forget Us Here. (That pudding story make a lot more sense, now, doesn't it?) #RonDeSantis
During the occupation of Kherson, Russian invaders tortured women in detention centres with beatings, electric shock, cold water, threats and humiliation.
The stories keep coming and going and people keep forgetting about them and moving on they fall flat for the next lie coming out of this genocidal regime and it's supporters
I honestly can't understand why we just let this to go on. Abs so many people ignore every outrageous crimes committed by them.
According to recent estimates, roughly 90% of Ukrainian prisoners of war have been subjected to torture, rape, threats of sexual violence, or other forms of ill-treatment.
Today in Labor History October 8, 1965: The Indonesian military, led by future dictator Suharto, began torturing and massacring thousands of "suspected" Communists, leading ultimately to the overthrow of leftist President Sukarno. Other targets of the murders were members of the Gerwani women’s movement, trade unionists, ethnic Javanese Abangan, ethnic Chinese, atheists, teachers, students, and alleged leftists in general. The U.S. embassy provided the death squads with the names of suspected “communists.” Intelligence agencies from the U.S., U.K., and Australia provided anti-communist propaganda, as well as military and logistical aid. Overall, the genocide (1965-1966) led to 500,000 to 1.2 million civilian deaths and 1.5 million imprisoned. A top-secret CIA report from 1968 called the massacres "one of the worst mass murders of the 20th century, along with the Soviet purges of the 1930s, the Nazi mass murders, and the Maoist bloodbath of the early 1950s." Nevertheless, Western media either downplayed the events, or celebrated them. Suharto remained in power until 1998, continuing to imprison, torture and slaughter workers and civilians. He also presided over the East Timor Genocide of up to 300,000 people in the 1970’s.

#Israel / Global Index: Israel falls out of the liberal democracy category for the first
time in over 50 years; substantive decline also include freedom from #torture
With the question of whether a “Jewish State” can even be a real democracy put aside, Israel is no longer even that. Strangely, Israel seems to to have finally assimilated in the Middle East, but in the worst possible way.
[…] The Middle East and North Africa (#MENA) remains the most autocratic region in the world, with 98% of its population residing in autocracies. A large share (45%) lives in closed autocracies such as #Iran, #Libya, and Saudi Arabia, but 53% live in electoral autocracies, such as #Türkiye and Iraq. 2% of the region's population reside in #Tunisia, which is in the “grey zone” electoral autocracy category. The remaining 2% live in Israel. Notably, Israel lost its long-time status as liberal democracy in 2023. It is now classified as an electoral democracy – for the first time in over 50 years. This is primarily due to substantial declines in the indicators measuring the transparency and predictability of the law, and government attacks on the judiciary.
[…] Among other things, Israel’s Knesset passed a bill in 2023 stripping the Supreme Court of the power to declare government decisions unreasonable. Indicators that are in substantive decline also include freedom from torture.

"“We are horrified at details emerging from mass graves recently unearthed in the #Gaza Strip. Over 390 bodies have been discovered at Nasser and Al Shifa #hospitals, including of #women and #children, with many reportedly showing signs of #torture and summary executions, and potential instances of people buried alive,” the experts said.
"Adnan Al-Bursh was the head of the orthopedic wing at Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. During the war, he had to wander from one hospital to the next, as they were all destroyed by the IDF. He has not been back to his home in Jabalya since the start of the war, and last December all trace of him disappeared. Recently, it transpired that he had died in an Israeli jail, apparently due to the torture of beatings during interrogation"
New from Gideon Levy
"A doctor, a hospital ward director, was beaten and tortured to death in an Israeli jail. That did not set off alarms here. Nearly all his physician colleagues, including heads of the medical establishment and those who take part in the horrific torture ongoing at Sde Teiman base and in Israeli prisons, did not say a word. A department director was beaten to death. So what?"
Gideon Levy on the murder of Dr Adnan Al-Bursh
"The last people to see him were other doctors and detainees who have been released. They told Haaretz correspondents Jack Khoury and Bar Peleg that they had barely recognized him. "It was clear he had been through hell, torture, humiliation, and sleep deprivation. He wasn't the person we knew; he was a shadow of himself." (Haaretz, May 12.)
