1/ This is the longest exposure I've ever taken: 8 months long! It shows the Sun's path on the sky between Apr 17 - Dec 11 2018, as seen from ESO's Paranal Observatory in #Chile.
This is part of a collaboration with Diego López Calvín, an expert in solarigraphy: https://solarigrafia.com
Diego sent me some of his hand-made #pinhole cameras, which I placed all over Paranal. So what do we see here? See thread below 👇
Someone appears to have issued #umbrellas for #sun protection there in #SouthKorea at the #heatwave striken World Scout Jamboree. Not a bad idea. Spot check and nearly every group walking has umbrellas.
Does anyone know of an archive of old Sun patchdisks, or the access1.sun.com website/FTP?
I need Patch ID# 104688-01, a TCP/IP fix for Interactive Unix 4.1.
and Patch ID# 107232-01, a IUS 4.1.1 NFS fix. #unix#classicunix#retrocomputing#oldunix#sun#solaris
So I caught the ISS today! Doesn't look as good as I hoped. Had to use my DSLR instead of astrocam because I had limited time during work to do this. I'll have to process the file after work tonight and see if I can make it a bit sharper. #astronomy#astrophotography#solar#sun#ISS
One of those sunspots in the full disk image is the ISS.
Ancient pine stumps in the French Alps record the most powerful known solar storm. It struck Earth 14,300 years ago & seeded the atmosphere with radioactive carbon-14.
Outstanding shot of the #Sun rising behind ESO's Extremely Large #Telescope, currently under construction in #Chile. The dome is about 80 m tall; look at the size of those cranes! The ELT will have a 39 m primary mirror — the largest optical-infrared telescope in the world.
And what's a better way to start the day than with some bright sunny art!
This boat is sailing towards the sun. And if you live in Holland like me, it's hard to even remember the sun, during these typical Dutch fall days. But I hope you will all be shining like the sun today, while doing whatever you have planned today. Have a good one! 🌞
Yesterday’s annular eclipse as viewed from a city park on the outskirts of Hondo, #Texas. There was a broad layer of high clouds when we arrived but luckily they broke up & blew away just in time for the main event. Had to get up in the wee hours and drive 225 miles (362 km) west to get right in the center of the path but it was well worth it.
