Phobos is the larger and closer of Mars's two moons, the other being Deimos. One hypothesis of their origin involves the possible capture of primitive asteroids. Ed Dwight became America’s first Black astronaut candidate some 60 years ago. He wasn’t picked for the 1963 class and that he would never experience the weightlessness of outer space.
