Last Friday, I set out to do something fun: capture the rotation of the sun! The challenge with this is that the sun rotates very slowly - roughly one rotation every 27 days. I captured images every 5 minutes from about 8AM to 5PM and then stuck them all together in a time lapse.
Now that the longer days are here, solar production at the house has gone up a lot, compared to winter, even with one panel down, due to a broken microinverter. I’m glad Enphase and our local solar installer are providing good service and warranty repair. Thanks, Highpoint Solar. #Enphase#solar#solarpower#homesolar
Did you know that putting floating solar on only 10% of the surface of all the reservoirs that humans have built could provide 110% of the electricity that we now are producing? Well, now you do.
Turns out the moon is not made of cheese, though it would have been a popular appetizer at your next dinner party. A thorough investigation revealed that Earth’s satellite has an inner core with a density similar to iron, which appears to settle the longstanding debate over it being solid or molten. There’s more in this Science Alert article, including how astronomers made the discovery and why it could lead to a better understanding of the solar system. https://flip.it/0nP7A1 #Science#Earth#Moon#Solar System #Space
"...solar roof tiles are solar panels that look like roof tiles.... Much like solar panels, they comprise semi-conducting materials that generate an electric charge and send it to an inverter and eventually a home and/or solar battery.
Unlike bolted-on roof panels, they take the place of the tiling on the roof and become part of the structure of the home."
About 20 years ago my cousin was trying to get those in Aotearoa NZ but building regulations wouldn’t allow it.
A couple of weeks ago I was biking along the Hauraki Rail Trail and saw a house with these tiles on the roof. They fit in quite nicely but were clearly not the same tin as the rest of the roof.
*Except if you are getting your #solar cells from Korea.
Given that we make exactly zero solar cells in the United States at present, the latest solar trade case seems to have less to do with protecting U.S. manufacturing and more to do with QCells and First Solar shutting their competitors - including other American manufacturers - out of the market.
And every time we do this, it incrementally slows the #energytransition.
