The world's largest battery-electric container ship, Greenwater 01, has started regular service between Shanghai and Nanjing.
The Greenwater 01 is 394 feet long and 78 feet wide, and the main battery needed to power it has a capacity of over 50,000 kilowatt-hours — more energy than it would take to power four average-sized households for an entire year. Even more battery capacity can be added for longer journeys.

EarthStor is a mechanical energy storage technology that taps into the pressure energy of fluid stored deep underground. When electricity supply surpasses demand excess electricity is used to power pumps and inject water below ground. Then, when the grid needs it the heated pressurized water can drive turbines that generate electricity.

What can we do to help make these stories on the climate progress we're making get more attention? We know from the way the right side of the aisle succeeds at selling their stories is repeating them over and over and over. I think that we need to talk up climate solutions more.
The Earth is currently out of thermal equilibrium, meaning more energy from the sun is being trapped by the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere than is escaping back to space. Over 90% of this extra heat is going into warming the oceans. However, as the oceans continue to warm, they will take up less heat from the atmosphere and global average surface temperatures will rise further.
Did you know that Greece doubled the amount of electricity produce without burning fossil fuels since 2014?
I somewhat doubt it since positve news about our response to global warming doesn't generate clicks or much interest which is why doomerism is growing imo.
Anyways, now you know that Greece appears to be well on its way to meeting its pollution-reduction goals after celebrating a major milestone in 2023.

They know they're finally losing on the national level after Joe Biden got elected so now the fossil fools are attacking clean energy at the local scale and it's a real risk to our planet.

And this climate progress is already happening despite Biden's IRA only starting to kick-in so this is amazing given the planning and construction time needed for utility scale solar and battery storage.
Battery prices dropping like they've been is really the biggest part of the story that should give you hope that we'll be able to do what so many people tried to convince you never would, decarbonization.

I was hoping that one of our major American auto manufacturers might be able to supplant Tesla as the biggest EV seller in the USA, but it is looking like it could be Hyundai instead. Too bad they're anti-union, but the UAW may make progress on that this year perhaps.
Purchasing a new EV with a 361-mile EPA-rated range for $36,065 is a big deal anyway imo.
